Changing Oxford St back to gay isn't going to change how deplorable the strip has become. If anything I wish I had a time machine so I could go back to the 90's when Oxford St was awesome, and when people actually interacted with each other. We seem to segregate ourselves from each other within our own community.

and besides how the fuck would we gauge that ?

Beefy security with their cocks hanging out - any boys giving it a squeeze/suck is gay and those that run are straight ?

Amen to common sense.

Maybe it's time for a new "Gay Mecca" of Australia?

wish that worked but they tried that with manacle and phoenix but the palces still got over run with straights. I think they like it lol

I think Oxford Street is prbobably going to go even further downhill. Since the shooting in the Cross on the weekend lots of people, including Malcolm Turnbull, are calling for the Cross to be cleaned up. There is an article in the SMH today (and I've heard various interviews through the week) suggesting that the Cross should follow Manly's lead and change to smaller bars, earlier closing etc.

http://http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/manly-now-the-role-model-of-reinvention-for-kings-cross-20120424-1xjfo.html

So, if they "clean up" the Cross guess where all the trash are going to end up.

The cleaned up the Cross years ago and a lot of the trash moved to Oxford St then and looked what happened.

So yeah Dsquare if they do it again, then they will just buy up the venues and turn that into the new Cross.

Until they build more high rises then those people demand changes to get rid of all the bars / brawls etc.

Nearly every city has its red light area so it will only open up somewhere else.

The idiots on my local council thought they could help solve and disperse the Kings Cross prostitute problem by inviting all those prostitutes to sell themselves individually from their own home rather than collectively at Kings Cross or at one of the 3 brother I pass on my way to the shops.

I don't yet know if they passed the by-law.

Maybe its all got to go Underground again.

Anything commercial will just attract the wrong crowd eventually if the gays dont support it. Cant blame owners. They need revenue.

Least with going Underground you attract the crowd you want. I have lots of friends who dont go near Oxford St anymore and just have their
names on lists with certain parties/groups they associate with and just go to those nights.

I don't think that altogether banning straight people from gay bars is the best option. If it is an issue, bars could adopt some kind of coloured wristband thing where gays, bis and straights have to wear different coloured wristbands or clothing depending on what their sexuality is. I've seen it done in straight bars but for availability and usually goes under the name of "traffic lights". Those who are single have a green wristband, red for in a relationship and yellow for 'it's complicated'. Or along those lines anyway!

Won't work. I'm colourblind. I can see that system causing a lot of uncomfortable situations for us colourblind folk.

This whole thread is ridiculously theoretical as none of us own a bar license.

I guarantee that all the sentimental intentions will disappear as soon as we get one.

I notice they say "gay male regulars" are let straight in - what about gays who happen to visiting melbourne and want a night at the peel? Are they made to wait in the line under the assumption that they are straight?

I went to the peel a few weeks ago on holiday from tassie and I was instantly let in, however I did a see the long line forming on the otherside of the door many of them were women.

No VD, the WORLD treated the gay communty however they damn well liked for years, bars were just one small part of it, hard to single them out for special treatment.

A bisexual is someone who lacks the balls to admit they like their own sex more than the other one. I wonder how many bi men spend time looking for pussy????
