In less than a year, I will hopefully become officially Australian. And I will be celebrating it by visiting Australian places.

Many conferences mainly to QLD and dont mind outside Cairns like Palm Cove , Port Douglas.

Great Ocean Road is scenic.

I loved Broome last year. Nothing much to do but stayed at best hotel - Cable Beach.

Cant overly comment on Darwin as flew in at midnight and out the next morning. Liked Katherine Gorge, Litchfield National Park with the swimming holes.

Any of the beaches north of Newcastle.

SA and southern WA still on the list to do.

Hey wysi, my fave holiday was, we stayed at Burleigh Towers, opposite the Burleigh Life saving club. Everyday, i was out on the balcony abt 6 am, watching all the surfies go for their early morning surf. It was great, i was having breakfast at 6 just to watch them.

Cairns, it is the one place in Australia you can come in the cold months and it literally is not cold... I am currently up in Cairns at the moment its between 25-30 every day and nice and cool at night...god...i was dying from the cold in sydney so glad im up here. There is so much to do up here tourist wise plus the Great Barrier Reef is up here, its good to try get up here before it dissapears :S

My fave Aus holiday is probably Anzac Day.
I get up early, go down to Currumbin for the Dawn Service, then sneak off early and climb Mt Warning and have breakfast up the top.
Then after climbing down, head in to Byron for lunch, a beer, and some two-ups for the arvo *grinning*

Tassie is very nice, wysi, I really like the scenery. Mum, dad and I were there at Port Arthur the week before Martin Bryant went mad and killed all of those people there. It really is a nice place, but very slow. I even went to Bellerive Oval and watched the cricket one day.

Whilst ambiguity isn't my favorite thing in the world I was not being pedantic, I really do enjoy Anzac Day, followed by Australia Day

Bali,

nah seriously I swear there was a thread about this same topic elsewhere and I replied the same.

But more seriously I have lived and worked in a few places around Australia and I can definitely vouch for the southern Gold Coast. It's so quintessentially Australian, stuck in its own time and vibe. Most of the people were happy to be there, most were on holiday! Burleigh heads is lovely so are the Currumbin Rock Pools a bit Southwest. Springbrook is worth the half hour drive each way. It has breathtaking panoramic views from the pinnacle aptly named "The best lookout of all" and you had to go through a rainforest section of waterfalls and ancient creeper plant vine things to get to it. <3 so much. Pictures don't really capture the essence of the place at all. It truly is breathtaking.

Even being driven along Mt Tomewin road and criss crossing your way over the QLD-NSW border lots was awesome.

My favourite aus holiday is the QLD NSW border including the full of character, oddball and still breathtaking awesome scatter of towns. I liked going to the community jumble sale they had in Nimbin, got heaps of hats and my mate got a hippie bag from Nepal for his friend. For like $5 for everything lol <3

I want to go back

Sunshine Coast seemed ok for more beach and surf styles, more untouched no skyscrapers etc.

If you are going on a holiday to celebrate being Australian it has to involve the amazing and one-of-a-kind landscape we are gifted with. Take into account things like the Great Barrier Reef, or Ayers Rock which may become inaccessible in the future.

I also really want to go to Tasmania, spend a month or more in a hut somewhere. With fishing gear, a 4WD, a kayak on the many many rivers. Trek about the place and absorb the untouched natural landscapes.

Do you consider Queen's Birthday as an 'Aussie' holiday? technically she's the head of state of Aussieland.

Whether I consider it is irrelevant... It is an Aussie holiday. Everyone in QLD should be happy to know that we get two queen's birthday holidays this year....
