pretending to be gay would not give you real understanding of the process of coming out and growing up with a secret. living it and feeling it and knowing this is what you are. most of the hardship we face is the internal shit that goes on that can only be experienced if you are gay. true fear of being different.

This may be a better experiment 10 or 20 years ago but today its not so hard to be gay to every day people, its harder dealing with acceptance of yourself growing up and coming out and of your family and close ones. although perhaps in a country town or something?
