Please understand I am not backing up Bob Katter here. What he is trying to say, ok maybe he does not support gay marriage or a 'homosexual lifestyle' whatever stereotype that maybe to him. His intentions are about other things. I think he as a person gets annoyed at the fact that 'gay' guys are always at the centre of attention lately, it is all about us when really it is not always about us. There are other major issues in this country that need to be addressed whether it be farmers needing assistance, resource issues, mining and the natural environment e.g. great barrier reef in danger because of mining. So many issues in this country that effect everyone including 'us'. Let us acknowledge that and focus on other things as well besides ourselves. Bob Katter might not like 'Homosexuals', however it is up to us to show him we do not just care about 'ourselves'. That most of us truly do live a lifestyle of humility and modesty.

Bullshit. Noone is saying that marriage equality is the only issue. I don't buy into this argument that because there are other issues that somehow we are self centred trying to get ours fixed. All issues can be dealt with, none is less or more relevant than any other.
Bob Katter is not saying that its always about us at all. He is completely denying that we are even relevant in any way. He doesnt even acknowledge that gay people exist within his own electorate. There is no excuse for the allowing the discrimination to continue. As long as we are brushed to the side and our views seen as irrelevant, the white heterosexual hegemony that run this place and run it really badly, will continue to keep homophobia entrenched within our institutions and communities. He quotes the number of times that someone has brought homosexual issues (whatever is meant by this: it is not really made clear) up with him as being 1 in the last 39 years but if he reacts like this each time why would people bother bringing it up with him? He uses these figures as the basis for his opinion that we should not waste time on discussing rights for non-heterosexual people. Unbelievable I would like to know how many "gay" people over the 39 years have tried to talk to Bob about gay marriage, but because he doesn't want to discuss it attitude they don't get listened to let alone get past Bob's staff. The one in all that time probably got in the door by wanting to discuss something *shaking my head* What an idiot.

To be honest (and trust me, I'm not a Bob fan), I do feel that it was a little bit of gutter journalism. He was set up. He went there to promote his book, which spent all of 5 seconds doing, before leading him down the path with specific quotes to would give them just a slimmest of reasons to bring up the gay marriage issue. We all know what his views (or lack of views) on gay marriage are, and I feel The Circle was just going for a bit of baiting and sensationalism.

With regard to Bob saying only one person had every bought up the subject in his 39 years in politics, I noticed that no-one bought up the fact that for the first 17 years of his political life, homosexuality was illegal in Queensland. Does he really think someone was going to approach him?
