I'm Andrew. I'm originally from Melbourne but living in Hong Kong, which I find fairly boring, so I'm often surfing around in samesame, including the Sydney branch.

See, when I was in my twenties I would've thought the same, but now I'm mid 30s I think: what would be the point being in the place I want tobe, without the job I want and the life I want to go with it?
If I moved back to Melbourne I wouldnt have the life I want 'cause my hubby wouldn't come and I'd probably be teaching bogans in Crap Suburbia Secondary College. Best option: see out my 2 year contract at the international school here , get the hubby to start looking for a job in one of our preferred cities (Bangkok, Melbourne or London), then go for all three!!

Are you in Sydney now?

I'm in Melbourne. I had a stint in Sydney. I had my moments ... My ups and downs.. fell in love fell out of love ... it was an experience ... Like a rpg where I'm stuck on a level but perhaps I'd make it next time when I revisit it... And go at it from a different angle.

These days I'm in Melbourne. Back to the familiar but mostly feeling like I can go further in a new environment that is not here.

I really like that you will follow your man till the ends of the earth. It's really inspirational .. And challenges me on my own beliefs as to how far I'd go for the one I love

Romeo, go to the comment, next to the quote button you'll find the Edit button, click that, then below your message box, 4 tabs will appear, next to "Go Advanced" is the delete option.
“It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so fucking what?”

Default Hello Sydney
Hey Guys,

My name is Jon and I'm a relatively new transplant to Sydney. I moved to New York from Australia seven years ago to pursue a PhD in Economics at NYU. I've just finished and i'm moved back down under to teach at the University of Sydney. I tend to spend my spare time decompressing, typically with the assistance of good friends, german and argentinian wine, books, fine food and an obscene amount of magazine subscriptions.

I also happen to be rather addicted to avant garde fashion and mid century modern and futuristic furniture. As a result, what little disposable income I have is spent collecting unconventional and deconstructed pieces from designers like Junya Watanabe, Comme des Garcons, Martin Margiela, Rick Owens and Yohji Yamamoto.

I am a big fan of electronic music and though my hard partying raver days are well and truly behind me, I do enjoy the occasional night out, especially if there is some good German techno or jungle being played.

Having worked slowly, but inexorably, towards the completion of my PhD, I have come to terms and am at peace with the fact that I am a very lazy person trapped in the body of an overachiever.

I'm really hoping to expand my social circle and make some friends. There seem to be some pretty awesome people here so please don't hesitate to say hello

Yo bro!!! (Isn't that what all us "lebs" say) . . . sadly I dont know!! . . . Lebanese-Australian guy brought up in a typical middle-class background with a Lebanese father and an English mother (. . . Would you like tabbouleh with that Yorkshire Pudding? . . ). Got the masculinity WITHOUT the "typical" Alpha-male Woggy attitude. . . like to shit-stir sometimes and be serious at other times. Love forums like this. Hope to learn from others, share my views, hopefully make some on-line friends and have FUN!!!

Yeah! Cheers bro!!!!!!!

Default Ahoy hoy!
Well howdy people! Long time reader, first time poster, etc etc. I usually sit here at work and peruse the articles here. You know, while I'm 'working'. Actually just made the account from work today so, no pictures etc up yet but, will get to all of that I'm sure!

I'm 22, living with my partner in Crow's Nest and like to keep myself pretty up to date on the latest community news!

A few fun facts: Planning my first trip overseas in August! (Thailand, here I come! Cocktails in the pool bar, all day, every day.)
I've lived in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney AND Adelaide! Just need to add Darwin and Perth to my totals and I've done it all!
Generally nerdy kind of lad (not the kind that is nerdy because it's cool. The kind that is nerdy because he stays up till 4am without realising it, just because he can't seem to pull himself away from the PS3/Diablo 3/League of Legends/ Pokemon....)
I'm a big dag, not a fashionable bone in my entire body. I think high-top shoes are just fine to wear with 3/4 length denim shorts. I've since been corrected, and informed that 3/4 length denim shorts are never okay to wear. Not ever. I had to burn 4 pairs. It was an upsetting ordeal.

So in summary, that's me! I'll probably be a little more vocal around here now that I actually have an account, since I am here almost every day.

Look forward to finally contributing to conversations

My name is Matt, 28 and I live in Leichhardt.

I work full time, study part time (almost finished my degree) and am by no way in the scene.

I am gay but not out, but wouldn't mind getting to know a few guys around Sydney as friends.

Default Hi, my name's Adrian
Older guy, not very "computer savvy", I'm afraid. Have been around Sydney's gay (then called camp) scene since the 70s. Have seen so many changes, over the years - some good, some not so good.

Remember all the old venues, like:- Cricketer's Arms Hotel (straight now, I think); Oddys Coffee Shop; Jools; Patchs; Palms (still there!!!); Capriccio's International Vanities (Nevermind); Flo's Palace (where The Den is now); Tropicana (upstairs Shift); Barrell Inn (Kings X); The Rex Hotel (Kings X), Castellos (Kings X); Tina's Wine Bar (Kings X), Ivy's Birdcage; Ruby Reds Nightclub (where Headquarters is upstairs), 253 Sauna (now a coffee shop); The Peak (Bondi Junction), Les Girls (aka "Les's Gorillas"); Pete's Beat and , of course, can remember Stonewall, The Columbian & Slide as banks of various different types.

Have been reading a lot of the threads over the last couple of weeks and thought I would join up. Hope to meet some of you guys if I can make one of the "social" nights in Sydney.

Welcome The Freak !

some of those before my time - Costello's/Tina'sIvy Birdcage etc but all the others ring a bell when I first started going out.

There was such variety ! but those places not needed anymore for guys/girls to go out and meet someone which is such a shame.

Enjoy the site !

Yes I agree with you mate. The "young ones" meet differently today, on-line and I've heard & read here (is it grindr???) using your mobile phone and its location??? I try to imagine what it would have been like, if we'd had that technology, back when I was younger (especially before AIDS came along). It was "crazy" enough, back then, without this technology.

Thought I'd just add. The places I mentioned, that you weren't familiar with - "Castellos" was up in the Cross, just off Bayswater Rd, in Kellett Street. Tina's Wine Bar, also up in the Cross, was at the top of William St, just before the Kings X Hotel near the Coca Cola sign and "Ivy's Birdcage" which was just hanging on when I got on the scene, was on Taylor Square (think I read somewhere it was the first gay venue in Oxford Street) "The Birdcage" was on the corner of Taylor Square which now has a cafe downstairs and I think a hairdressers upstairs (opposite "The Oxford" & "Courthouse" Hotels). It was on the 1st floor (where the hairdressers is now) and the "hasty tasty" takeaway was downstairs on the corner. (always good for good greasey take-away after a piss up in the bars)

Mentioning all these old places conjures up a lot of old good memories, also makes me feel sooooo old. Thanks for the welcome mate, by the way.

Hi all, thought it time I introduced myself. I am Mark and live just outside Canberra on a rural property, I also have a unit in Cronulla that I regularly visit.

I work in the public service developing policies around homelessness and how to best deliver program's in conjunction with state and territory governments. Of course we don't have all the answers but we are working on it. For example we just released for consultation legislation to recognise homelessness as a significant issue in our community. We also fund projects such as Reconnect which provides funding to Twenty10.

My background is predominantly in social work, dealing with young people their families at risk of homelessness, in both Canberra and Sydney. I also worked in other areas such as science research, nursing and theology.

I am single, mostly to being rather shy and introverter, and have been for a long time, mainly as I tend to focus on work and study too much. My interest are in cars, (mostly Fords), V8 racing (cars and utes). I also like 4wd travel and next year I am moving back to a big Jeep instead of my 'go very fast' turbo Subaru. I have also travelled to most parts of the world and I keep a couple of small pythons as well.

That's all I can think to say about myself.

Mark
