Hey ladies!

Glad to see there's actually some girls on this site! I am Sara, I currently live in Vancouver but I am moving to Melbourne in the next 6 months. I wanted to start looking up a little bit more about Australia and found this site. Figured I would see what your gay scene is all about. Looks pretty amazing! haha Can't wait!

Any moving tips would be much appreciated. As it stands I don't know anything about Australia but I can't wait to explore your beautiful country

Hey Sara! I have a couple of friends who have visited from Vancouver and all say that Melburnians are pretty similar to Canadians, so I think youll find it pretty comfy here. Heres a bit of an overview just to give you an idea of what your in for:
Weater wise, be prepared for anything, we usually do get a few seasons in 1 day, and the extreems of each season otherwise. Currently its drizzled rain for nearly 36 hours straight and the temp has hovered between 8 - 14 degrees celsius. Winter ends in August and Spring is up next, which means nice days of gentle sun (between 18 - 25 degree days) with the occasional raininy day.
Money wise melbourne can be as expensive or as cheap as you make it. Jobs in hospitality are usually always in abundance so if you dont have something lined up, thats always a way to keep cash coming in whil you find something better. The minimum wage is around $15 per hour. Rent in the suburbs is lower than the city, as a guide a 2 bedroom unit will set you back between $220 - $320 per week in the suburbs, where as in the city regions it is closer to $280 - 400 per week. When I head out for dinner its usually between $15 - $35 for a main and, beer is about $2-$5 a pot and wine ranges from $5 - $20 per glass (but the fancier stuff is more expensive) pre mixed spirits are expensive, due to a "alcho pop tax" brought in by the government to stop kids buying premixed spirits. If your out and oreder a vodka and raspberry expect to pay around $5 - $8 but if you arder a UDL (brand of premixed vodka and falvour in can) will set you back $8 - $12. Some clubs charge a cover fee, usually between $10 - $20, usually good to check the clubs website before as they often have a guest list option, which means you pay a reduced entry fee.

Cabs are expensive, unreliable and hard to come by (in my personal experience). The Metlink Website has a journey planner that you can put your start point and end point in and it will give you details of how to get there by public trasport. For daily living, local grocery stores are pretty well priced and I spend about $60-$100 on graceries per week (food and stuff) local take aways are pretty good value too (pizza around $7-$12 for a large, Chinese food around $10 - $15 per dish which is usually enough for 2)

In the burbs, the older folk are used to still giving and reciving a nod and a "morning" as they pass people on the street, but this is not really the done thing in city parts (and people will look at you strangly if you do). Dogs and cats need to be registered with local council or they can be taken from you and you have to pay to get them back. Dogs should be on leads unless its a leash off area.

The city region of Melbourne thrives on music and food, and most times a combination of both. Sport is also a big player in melbourne, and there is usually something for all tastes. AFL rules supereme, but you will be forgiven if you dont get into it. Soccor is also getting pretty popular, with 2 melbourne teams and NRL (Rugby Leauge) is getting more popular (probably due to the best team in the leauge The Melbourne Storm. If your into hockey, our state team is The Melbourne Ice (reigning league champions).

Food is varied and due to the international melting pot that melbourne is, you will find nearly every type of world cuisine availible, but some are better than others, so check out the reviews in your local paper or online review sites (or use my rule, if its consitantly got customers, it must be good)
The suburbs are like more relaxed versions of the city, same variety in people and food, just more trees.
The Queen Vic Market is an institution and has fresh produce and crafts (and dodgy knock off's of designer brands). I get there about 1 - 2 per month for fresh fruit and veg and meat that is cheaper than supermarkets and better quality. Farmers Markets are also becoming quite popular, and most suburbs have a regular one on.

Head down the great ocean road for some of the best sightseeing beach wise. My fav beaches in vic are at Angle Sea (back beach for serious swimmers/surfers only - mean rips and rock bars). The otways are also down that end of the state, gorgeous forrest area with walking tracks and peace all around. The Dandenong Ranges (Eastern Suburbs of melbourne) is a group of about 5-10 suburbs scattered up a mountain of forrest. Beautiful walking tracks, cute shops, surpurb cafes and miles of winding roads (be careful round corners).

Hope this helps

Wow age not even going there, but I hear the echo of years and years. The search for the place to go.
Well hello young ones. I am older, happier and like to spend time with myself. I breed Protection dogs and live in country SA.
I have been a lesbian forever and wouldn't change it. I have lived in most states of Australia and might still keep looking.
Hi to everyone else before me.

Hi guys, I'm from Melbourne. I'm bi, I suppose technically I'm new to the scene because I've just realised most of my friends are straight or gay guys and I'm not really sure where to make some new lesbian or female bi friends.

Greetings,

I am a new arrival from London - I'm a Kiwi but consider myself a Londoner as it is where I now call 'home'. The scene there is say the least, large... with a huge variety of nights and meets.

I live in hope of finding some stylish nights with glam-bians, like those I left behind, and not to much division and ghetto-isation in the community like I remember in NZ.

Evening girls!

I'm Cheryl, I'm a mature gal who's just come out and living on the gold coast. I'm a former bi-swinger and now full time lesbian.

I have a passion for jewelry and sporty gals with firm toned bodies, both combined make me moist.
