ok so imma gonna finally buy into this thread

i know LB irl and hes a nice guy, however, i dont think he comes anywhere close to being one of th 'SS 25' most influential GLBT ppl, he is (was?) a regular contributor to th forums, but that in itself does not constitute criteria for th SS25

i would say th same for most of th regular forum members here - SS is a great forum but being a regular forum participant is not in th same league as th penny wongs, matt mitchams, tom ballards, michael kirbys, keryn phelps, christine mansfield, etc etc etc

Not at all! I think LB is some kind of genius who unfortunately is no longer expressing it via the medium of SS.

I am down on the notion of competitions with winners and losers and where poor Matt has to scrounge around and find new people who are willing to be nominated.

Don't feel down or take pity! We get hundreds of nominations each time. The nominations help me discover loads of great people doing things in their local communities who we may not have heard of before. So it's a useful thing. xx

Oldie im perpetually out of touch (i only found out who one direction were five weeks ago. A guy on twitter was calling himself a "male directioner" - i quite seriously asked what that job was, i thought it must have been a stripper or something like that).
I still cant fathom the logic of using someone elses photos on a dating/hookup website

But someone else who could be nominated is the guy (on the right) the Sydney architect named Philip Diment.



He was a volunteer for the Aids memorial quilt who had the nous to raise the five-figure sum to get it stored properly at the Powerhouse Museum. He was recognised in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his other volunteer work. (I admit I tend to turn away from Aids events but this attached article says the virus took 1572 Australian lives.)

I reiterate my nomination.

But I’d also nominate David Malouf because he’s a good Australian gay gentleman (his family may have come from the Lebanon but they’ve been contributing here for a century).

David Malouf is a gentleman who’s interested in and campaigns for Australian culture. And I don’t mean pop culture like Ruby Rose and the fly-by-nighters. I mean real culture. The culture that people from overseas recognize as Australian culture.

Malouf works in different mediums. He used to work in poetry but he knows that that medium has died. He writes excellent short stories. You can get through Johnno, —his first novel, with its sunny taste of Brisbane flesh— in an afternoon. His other novels aren’t so easy — they’re so translucent they almost disappear when you hold the book up to the sun.

But anyway, as I say, a good Australian gay ambassador.

Mark_ isn't it customary for the nominator to detail reasons why peeps should vote for a candidate?
Has LB performed any miracles lately?
