I have also received 2 emails from those listed on the 'undecided' list confirming they to will be voting in favour. I think this could be a lot closer than we think.

^^^^^^I think thats like the polish horse-mounted cavalry, who charged german tanks in 1939 - noble, but whos chances of success, were not based on reality

With respect LW, your understanding of the events in Krojanty on 1 September 1939 reflect more the Nazi propaganda view than reality. The purpose of the charge was to delay the German tank brigade to allow a battalion of Polish troops to retreat - that was achieved - albeit at a heavy price.

More to the point on the vote: I oscillate between believing/hoping the vote will pass and your view of perhaps realistic pessimism of its chances. "Hope" is of course never a good basis for a strategy although I hope I am right and you are wrong!

Regardless, the comparative analogy, to the way the vote will fall in the bill for the legislation of same sex marriage, is accurate. Clasping your hands and looking wishfully to the sky, does not alter the numerical reality of the vote.

Well I hope the debate in your Parliament and in the media over the next two days will be more than "looking wishfully to the sky"
and that the waiverers will be persuaded to the pro camp. But as I said before, hope is not the best basis for a strategy!

Id be surprised if the two day long parliamentary debate itself, shifts the vote of ANY senators or MPs, for this particular vote. Surely this is an issue that each member knows full well which way they will be voting when the debate on this legislation commenced. any parliamentary member, who at this stage is still claiming to have not made up their mind, is just claiming to do so for their own personal PR purposes

Maybe you are right - I just think that there are still some undeclared and like in NZ there may be some late converts a day to two before the vote. Wednesday we shall see.

I'm so glad Bob Carr has added to the dialogue concerning marriage equality and given his support.
It's time for New South Wales to embrace marriage equality. Queensland isn't ready for it yet, sadly and won't be until the LNP are voted out - which may be half a generation away. Who knows. All I know for sure is that I'm passionate about marriage equality becoming a reality in Australia. It's right and just and fair. Why? Because love is love. Love is a universal behaviour and state of being. We all as adults have the capacity to love another human being and to have that love validated in law through the benefit of marriage.
Thank you, Bob Carr.

And I'm passionate about steam trains and wattle trees but I don't go rioting in the streets and annoying people with it.

Were those Muslims on Saturday rioting to demand legal polygamous marriage?

I'd marry everyone of them. ...whoops my Sydney bottoms train of thought is invading other threads
