Yes, your old Freaky knows this was done to death on the "Charlotte Dawson" thread.

And if you've come to get any sense of the person I am, you realise I'm not one for confrontations. In fact if the truth be known, old Freaky avoids it like a bad case of the "clap". I enjoy the thoughts and banter between other posters on same same re more "meatier" political issues, but rarely contribute myself.

But it has come to this old Freak's attention of late that someone who regularly posts on same same is possibly leaving due to the vile, verbal personal abuse hurled at him recently on a thread.

Now old Freaky might be a "newbie" on the internet and still learning about computers and their use, but Freaky's not a "newbie" in life, far from it. I 've been around the Sydney gay scene since the 1970's, there's not one thing you can tell me about vicious nasty, vile queens that I don't already know about. Trust old Freaky, I've met them all. And anyone of my vintage probably has too!

Don't ask me for particulars on who might be leaving. I maybe a lots of things, but a "blabbermouth" isn't one of them!

The point of this thread is to ask all of you, quite seriously, when is enough, enough?? We're all suppose to be "adults" here and whilst that may mean we don't always see eye-to-eye on things, when do we draw the line? When does this sort of behaviour become too much and why is this unacceptable and nasty behaviour not stopped earlier by this site? We're gay and lesbian - and maybe we have a recessive gene for "bitchiness". I'm not talking bitchy ..... I'm talking nasty with a capital "N". What constitutes a troll to you?And when should same same step in and stop it?

In my opinion Freaky, people over step their mark when they react with personal insults . The threads or posters have a theme or topic & you can agree or disagree but state your case if you strongly have an opinion on a topic.
"DON'T RESPOND TO NASTY INSULTS" it's been said over & over again but it works it only propagates the hate if you respond, let it go!

The definition of a troll and what is trolling behaviour is a grey area I believe and it needs to be considered on a case to case basis.

For example a lot of the banter by regulars on SameSame, which is really just fun conversation can be considered by many to be trolling, especially by people who don't regularly participate in the forums.

Yet there is a line where blatant vicious personal attacks and bullying occur and this is not acceptable.

If anyone is being harrassed or bullied they should report it immediately to the moderator (e.g. Matt Akersten). The moderator can only act on bad behaviour if people report it. If there is anyone you don't like on SameSame use the ignore feature.

I'd like to add some regulars are territorial on these forums and do come across as having a sense of entitlement and ownership since they have been around for awhile. Everyone should remember that SameSame is not for a select few, yet all GLBTIQ people around the world.

What I find totally amazing is that we all part of the LGBTIQ community - a community that suffers extreme judgement and discrimination every day and yet I have to say that I have never experienced such aggressive discrimination and vile judgements as I have seen on this site in that last few days. It is truly a very sad day when the discriminated upon turn on one of their own and start discriminating and judging on the basis of that person's sexuality. The treatment transgender and bi-sexual people sometimes get from other gay and lesbian people can be truly jaw dropping in its judgment, dismissiveness and lack of respect. The perpetrators should feel deep shame.

Oh I know, dear. Nothing worse than trolls. Oh wait, dear! Yes there is. How silly of me dear. CLONES. They're far worse. And MUCH nastier. They come in some many varities too, dear. Did you know that? There's one particular nasty type we should all be warned about on here, dear. It's the EUROPEAN variety. Oh they're all kinds of nasty liars, dear. Especially to the ones they profess to love, dear. And you don't want them as friends either, dear! They'll betray any confidence. Yes definitely worse than anything else, dear. There's only one word for them. SCUMBAGS, dear! Harsh , dear, I know but necessary. Truely! You know, I have a sudden urge to wanna translate that into French, for some reason. And I don't have the slightest notion why, dear! Must have been infected lately by a EUROPEAN CLONE, dear.

I do carry on, dont I? Now what were we discussing, dear? Trolls?

No! Never met one, dear!

A troll is a person who disregards the opinions of others' and does not respect other posters' right to air their views in a mature way.

If I disagree with a poster, I give my reasons and never name call. It's immature. On the internet you don't have the luxury of seeing peoples' body language or hearing their tone of voice, so some misunderstandings may occur if you don't trust the poster to be authentic.

We are all different. We have experienced different people, places and events. We have differing personalities and we are all unique. I hope we can all keep this in mind as we set out to get to know each other.

from the school yard to going out to work to internet forums its all basically the same.

There will always be cunts who get glee out of cutting people to the bone with name calling / accusations / those who think they are the moderators of what is PC.

Earlier on here I tried to console a newbie saying dont rise to the baiting of an SS'er and had a few choice words I used - nothing as bad as what was actually posted by others about that SS'er - but my PM's were leaked and they turn rancid against me. Taught me not to console anyone again.

As they say ............. dont feed the trolls. Take a deep breath and ignore them. When they dont get the attention they will slink off elsewhere
to do their stirring.

I leave shame to the Catholics. But seriously CeeAy— wherever you come from— you need to communicate with the particular person at the time.

Australia is a multi-culture, multi-gender, multi-attitude place and I for one can't keep up with all the latest fads that all those different people choose to take offence over. (Who would have thought another lousy Californian video would cause people to kill each other over?)

Just to make sure I get it in before Matt bans you when he gets in to the office tomorrow - please go and crawl back into the festering slime pit you oozed out of. You may think that your insults are ever so clever and cutting, but those of us that have been around here for more than five minutes have seen pathetic little creatures like you come and go dozens of times over. Just so you know how it will go, you'll be banned, you'll come back a few times with new profile names thinking your being awfully clever and no one wil know it's you again, everyone will eventually just ignore you and you'll get bored and go off to continue you pointless little life somewhere else. So why not save yourself and everybody else some time and slime off now?

Oh, and as for the "European clone", he has more class in his little finger than you'll ever have in your entire pustulant body.

I really enjoy robust discussion, but I have to keep reminding myself that many people are a bit like Freaky and try their best to avoid confrontation. Even IRL this tends to get me into trouble. I think there's a perception that if you're actively disagreeing with somebody's position then you are insulting them in some way. Then it becomes a shitstorm.

I acknowledge such misunderstandings happen but very I do try my best to play the ball and not the man, so to speak. There are a few others on this site who fall into the same trap, and I find myself cringing at the screen sometimes. When I first signed up I was really nervous, had been lurking for a while and there were a few regular posters that I really liked. If I had've been attacked straight off the bat I would have probably stopped contributing very quicky. I get the feeling that this happens quite a bit around here, and we all pay in the long run because conversations between small groups become tedious after a time.

Oh Dsquare stop ! its prob the highlight of the day to spew bile.

And yep Bar Wench it does happen that newbies get accused quickly and only the stronger ones stay. As I posted I once tried to console someone but that back fired spectaculary on me as they divulged my PM's ( not publicly ) but taught me to just let it go and dont bother protecting anyone.

Samesame seems to have this bizzare concept that every newbie is considered a clone until they prove otherwise. SS has had it's problems with clones over the years, but it seems to have instilled a distrust of every new person until they prove themselves.

If there was one thing I could change about SS, that would be it.

BTW, Oldie is that you in your profile pic? Always wondered what you looked like.

100% on the clone thing. I always thought it just meant more numbers/members so was left alone.

but now you can get multiple ISP thingys so in all fairness to Matt its very difficult to track down.

A Troll may/may not be a Clone.
A Clone may/may not be a Troll.

Troll = troublemaker
Clone = duplicate/triplicate/quadruplicate/quintuplicate/etc./etc.

As you can see, you need not be a Clone to be considered a Troll.

However, it seems some Clones were purposely created to become Trolls.

I have no arguement with you, dear or any other person on this site, dear. I don't appreciate being lectured to by a EUROPEAN CLONE on equality who obviously doesn't practice what he preaches in his own life. It mightn't offend you, dear, but it does me!And do what ever you like tomorrow, dear. That's your choice and privilege, dear. Personally, dear, trying to find internet cafes opened & borrowing work place laptops has become rather tiresome and tedious dear. If you people want to take advice from a closeted husband-cheater then do so. I no longer care!

Actually yes, you do have an argument with me. You've attacked someone who I consider a friend and whom I have a lot of respect for and have brought a lot of hatred and spite to a forum I enjoy. So yes, I do take it as a personal insult.

And by the way, how do you know Wonderland is a "closeted husband-cheater"? As far as I'm aware you know no more about him than you could have gleaned from these froums, and I've ceratinly never seen him describe himself as such. Or are you just making assumptions from your preconcieved ideas and limited life experience?

I think tony abbott could be a typical representation of a troll.
Sadly I like to give people a fair go but this mans ugliness comes out more and more every day.

The definition of what contitutes a troll, does indeed massively vary. I could be considered a Troll just by disagreeing with someone, or I could also be considered a Troll, if I've found out what makes a person tick and continuously target said person with said information....for personal amusement of course! >:]

I might point out that I'm not 16 anymore, so I see no need to Troll these days. I've grown up, some muppets don't unfortunately. Although given the right reasons, I might just do it again to someone.

Yeah he passed away sadly. He had a heart attack, went into a coma, never came back. :/ Trolls everywhere cried.

YES!! I beat your expectations! I hit the ban button tonight.

Hey on a serious note, it's been an insanely busy week, we normally check the forum more and could've picked up on a couple of things seen on this particular thread a bit quicker in recent days. Apologies for that.

I like what most people have typed on this thread though. We do act on concerns about bullying/trolling but don't like to make an emormous fuss about it, so it may seem us moderators are too quiet sometimes. We're there though!

In general, of course, we place enormous trust in all of our members to be adults and enjoy the conversation/debates without getting personal or abusive. And our trust is rewarded most of the time.

If you feel you or others have been targeted you can report posts to us or send me a PM (I read all of them and do look into posting histories, stats and IP addresses).

And do try to give new people the benefit of the doubt! If you suspect a banned member is back under a different guise, then rather than publicly accuse someone, please let me know your concerns. We do and MUST welcome new members... and not chase them away.

I'd like to add that everyone should be mindful to be natural in they way they welcome new members to SameSame and hold back on being overly nice when they first post (especially in the 'introduce yourself' threads), since it can be interpreted as suspect behaviour.

The best way I feel to welcome new members is to ensure they are included in the conversations/threads and their contributions and opinions are respected.

You guys do alright. Good thing this place isn't a gaming forum, you'd need more Admins/Mods. That shit use to be a hectic.

I can see how it can be seen as suspect behaviour sometimes, but saying hi and welcome to the forums can do a lot to bring the person back. Some people will sign up, say "hi, this is me" in the Introduce yourself threads, an then never come back again.

I usually just throw in some extremely mild humour, I find it can help to break the ice for them.

I think it needs to be put in perspective. I agree we need to welcome and break the ice for new members, yet the welcoming committee approach by some forumites in the introduce yourself threads can be seen as schmultzy and attention seeking.

Yet I do like your comments in the introduce yourself thread. Dare I say the warm hearted country boy in you comes out!
