Lol cheers Ash. I do agree with you, some first comments to new comers can be a bit too out there or just far too uniform in approach. I think most that post in that thread are genuine, and gladly welcoming to our new members. I guess the rest of us will just have to chip in more to make the newbs feel more at home! :]

Aside from that, making them feel more included in the conversations that go on in here is a massive help to them feeling more accepted. So good point on that one Ash.

Uhh okay - so both of you will be lovingly gazing into each others' eyes as you both are being mercilessly pounded side-by-side by All Blacks players?

Troll'ing is just basically saying things to illicit a negative emotional response from someone.

Sadly people still don't understand the meaning of troll or understand when they are being the victim of a troll...

HISTORY 101... The troll expression came from a series of comics called rage comics... they have been out for a long time and after having a read you may come to understand the humour and history of trolling.

There is a line.

Freedom of speech, Having an educated opinion, Genuine concern.
.................................................. ......................................
Vindictive, Hate mongering, Deliberate expression of views in an inappropriate manner with full knowledge that what they are doing is abusive/illegal/emotionally compromising and just plain mean.

I have found that you will never see a perma-troll/ troublemaker with their real pic up and any honest personal content in their profile.

agree

suspect behaviour can be reported you know for a real moderator to decide instead of accusations of it.

This can be a grey area and as I stated in an earlier comment needs to be considered on a case-by-case basis. I find a lot of people if they disagree with an opinion will automatically accuse the person of 'trolling' even when they are presenting an educated alternative view. Yet as you said a lot of people don't understand what trolling actually is.

Good comment by the way.

I'm sure you'll understand Mr Biglebstud if old Freaky says he can't answer for someone else on what they choose to do or not do.

I don't know if anyone else here remembers the "Homewares" thread? Old Freaky does with great affection because Mr Wonderland, Dsquare and myself "shanghai-ed" a perfectly normal thread and invested our own brand of "silliness" inside it. It stands out, to this old Freak, as one of the most enjoyable encounters I've had with 2 other people here, since I joined Same Same this year. Mr Wonderland PM ed me shortly after that and we've chatted a few times since.

I agree with Dsquare 1000% that Mr Wonderland is someone who this old Freak has come to admire and respect. I think it is fair to say, Mr Biglebstud, that he obviously prefers to keep some aspects of his life private. No one can blame the man for that. Don't we all to some extent ourselves?

As I consider myself a friend, I believe that it would be remiss of Freaky to divulge anything told in confidence. I hope you & others understand. I'm sure whatever Mr Wonderland chooses to do or not do will become apparent as time goes on.

May I say, Mr Biglebstud that I like your "..... balls of steel ....." description.

It conjures up all sorts of interesting "visuals"

Thats a crock of shit - there have been vast amounts of clone profiles on this site - they like them because if someone has enough time on their hands to create multiple accounts, then they are going to bring way more chatter/activity to the forums than a normal poster = protected species by samesame. Look at the amount of different profiles for months and months from shaynesydney and his sidekick that we had to put up with. (but the IP adresses didnt match, so there was no "evidence). I remember lazzarus once rubbishing the failed notions of banning someone based on matching IP adresses, by saying he had 6 IP adresses, so that aspect is apparently easy to get around) Same with sesame/orightfellas/ect. Not to mention the vast array of characters that wysi has introduced to us over the years. Samesame is slitting their own throat by banning all these clones, by reducing the activity they bring to the forums, thats why they dont. They have no desire to. Just look at how many almost identical threads that "sunnyBB" created over the space of a week, not long ago, before the moderators finally "noticed". It was something that people were comenting on/creating activity = samesame loves it = unwillingness to do anything about it. You wouldnt tollerate someone being a fraud in real life - why tollerate it on here.

Hey! We do take these things seriously and yes, ALWAYS ban members who use the same IP address for more than one account. When they don't, we've got to be careful we're not banning actual new people, but when it becomes obvious they're the same person, we do act. That's why I do welcome people messaging me with their suspicions.

It's easy to have a go at us over this stuff... "oh well it was so obvious to me that suchandsuch is suchandsuch"... but without strong evidence we do get nervous hitting that 'ban' button, imagining a brand new poster getting booted out.

Yes, 'SunnyBB' stayed a few days too long. I don't look at the Ladies Lounge every day, and its readers and normally very swift at reporting things we need to see. It was a while before anyone reported 'her' and there were a few threads of 'hers' which inspired commentary. The same user/bot has been back twice since SunnyBB was banned and has been gotten rid of very swiftly.

This is a good topic, and I do need to get challenged on this stuff if anyone feels our moderation is going down the wrong track. And if you don't trust us, I'm glad you can raise your concerns. But your idea that we don't take the clone creations seriously and don't want to take action is a problematic one because it means you'll end up suspecting there's more of it going on than there actually is, because we're somehow supporting it. We're not.

We do naturally want this forum to be busy with lots of people using it, but not busy with a few people being mischievous and manipulative with multiple accounts. As you say, we wouldn't tolerate someone being a fraud in real life - why tolerate it on here? xx

I agree with Matt on this. As I said yesterday SS seems to have a habit of denouncing new members as clones until they have proved they are not, and in most cases there seems to be no evidence what-so-ever that they are a clone other than they are "new". Look at how many years Wysi has been accused of being a clone. I really find it hard to believe that someone could be bothered to keep a clone profile going for so long, and for what purpose? Clone accounts are usually used for trolling, such as our dearly departed Ballfree or whatever its name was, but Wysi has never been like that, so why do people insist he is a clone? And, the big question, a clone of who? Presumably if he's a clone he belongs to someone who has been around for at least as long as he has, so who is it?

It's not Matt's job to "protect" us from "frauds" - I think we're all old enough and ugly enough to look after ourselves. It's only when people become offensive and insulting, like our dear biafran, that a moderator should step in and ban them, and I think Matty does a pretty good job of giving people free reign to express themsleves while stepping in when appropriate and required. Particlularly when yo consider that babysitting us probably isn't Matt's only job, and possibly not even part of his official job description.
