Either's a possibility, although I was thinking more the latter.

well considering the short sentences they give to offenders who actually physically rape children I am not surprised it would be crazy to give him a longer sentence for looking at porn - I think his life is pretty much ruined anyway. seeing his family ontv outside the court I felt sorry for them they must be so embarrassed

Isn't that part of the punishment?

Judges take into account that someone has lost their career, family, reputation etc, when sentencing an offender.

"Don't committ offended because your family's life will be ruined" is often more of a deterrent than prison time.

As I mentioned yesterday, penetration is happening day after day in Australia. SBS TV News tonight said there were 2,000 people involved.

The Herald tells us about life in Risdon but omits any mention of shower action.
http://www.smh.com.au/national/makin...008-2795l.html

The Newcastle Anglicans defrocked three molesters last month but there's still no action from Pell who continues to cover-up the 'Father F Scandal' who's admitted in court to molesting schoolboys.
http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/content/2012/s3542200.htm

BTW: I've just finished a novel written in 1945 when I guess the Cardinal's kind of attitudes held sway. It's called Moon In My Pocket— the first novel by Morris West who would go on to sell more books around the world than other Australian author.

It's set in the Hutchens family in Sydney just before the war. They live in 'a pleasant house with a homely chicken-run and vegetable plot out the back' but, unfortunately, father succumbs to 'the Irish disease' and the family have to learn to cope. The 16 year old son, Ian wants a 'centre of balance in the chaos of this world' so he decides to join the Christian Brothers monastery because he thinks it is 'a symbol of fixity'. He thinks he has the 'wisdom and intelligence to be a school teacher and lay within the foundations of the coming generation'.

Unfortunately he doesn't like the Brother Superior, who is a 'vain, mean little man…short, rotund with mistrustful eyes and the queer, false deprecation of a lisp'. He deals with self-hatred and encounters temptation amongst his fellow-postulants. He 'shrinks from the shame of his wakening body, his normal curiosity unsatisfied, afraid of the daily clamour of undirected affections that set him dreaming still of Beauty Unobtainable, that nourished, queer unspoken, hermaphroditic attachments to his fellows in the order'.

The 'pretty and feminine schoolboy, Basil took hold of his imagination and loomed long and constant in his daily dreams'. But he was 'afraid to probe' that 'a strange attachment' had grown between him and this 'soft-voiced, ridiculously boyish novice. He was vaguely afraid of the sensuous hermaphroditic attachment, sensing the first vague impulse toward perverted affection. Instinctively he shrank from his unconcealed advances, repelled, afraid of physical contacts, yet, curious, stirred, welcoming the testimony of even so dubious an affection'.

But Ian also encounters 'hermaphrodites' when he attempts a relationship with a girl named Vera. They go the pictures and afterwards to a nightclub where they're forced listen to 'saccharine rhythms from the flabby-jowled hermaphrodites in the orchestra'.

He decides he must leave the monastery to find the centre of balance in the 'queer, queer world'.

The book has its climax down on the south coast where Vera attempts to seduce him. She challenges him 'to take me now… feel my breast and [asks] am I not woman enough to store you?'. Unfortunately not, so Ian walks into the sunset as Vera chastises him. 'Ian, are you not sure you are running away from something?'.

Today, the NSW Police finally arrested that Catholic child molester that the Catholic cardinal was defending over three months ago.

A Melbourne detective investigating another Catholic molester says the church spends 'millions of dollars' to cover up their investigations that the taxpayer has to pay for.

The only thing worse than Catholics are people from England- or Chicago.

I am not too fond of people from Perth either

South Australia gave us Snowtown and the Family Murders.

Britain - has only given us the Royal Family.

I do not care for anything else that comes from that 'has been' empire.

Yesterdays empire- today's shitty tabloid publications

Oh you are so wrong!! The Yorshire Ripper, The Moors murderers, Rose and Fred West (my personal faves), Dr Shipman. England has given us so much.

Of course, ya can't beat the Austrians. Well, you could but they'd probably lock you in the cellar for it.

I wonder how delicate little Andy is coping in Risdon?

Meanwhile, Catholic Church is more interested in protecting its reputation than helping its victims

So what's new, mate? The Catholic Church are good at hiding their "little misfortunes" under the rug. How many times have we heard how these bastards molest children? Parents complain to a higher authourity and instead of taking decisive action like de-frocking the priest after the accusation has been proved or at minimal, removing them from any/all temptation - they simply move the offender onto another parish. And what of the victim? Ignored by the church.

It's long overdue - time for the Catholic Church to start "house cleaning" and getting rid of these bastards once and for all. Or go on carrying the stigma of a haven for child molesters and an uncaring organization which victimises the victims and not the perpetrators.

I think it's time for the Catholic Church to stop taking our tax-money.

They should be spending their own money to pay for their schools to spread their own brand of superstition and propaganda .

Exactly! They're rich enough to fund their own schools and pay compensation to victims of abuse by priests.

It's not only the Catholics, those Protestants are just as bad and Protestants shouldn't receive any tax payer funds either.

Mark have you forgotten about that wretched man the former Governer General and Anglican Archbishop Peter Hollingworth.

^That person may have covered up one molester but all those Catholic bishops and their cardinal have harboured hundreds of molesters. I hear that 'Christian Brothers' in the US has been bankrupted by paying out lawyers' fees to suppress their kiddy-fiddling.

Do u reckon Andy has found a husband in prison yet?

If he was a higher grade of celebrity there would've been slash porn all over the net about his time in the clink.

As absurd as this is to say- prison is probably the place he may feel the most comfortable at the moment.
It gives him time to think about things he will say upon his release and really work on a story.

If he didn't get a prison sentence- he would have been followed by the media and asked too many difficult questions.
He probably would have had to move overseas- to some place like Japan- where child porn is more acceptable.

I can't really imagine him having any sort of " normal" life if he stays within Australia.
I can't imagine him ever working on television again- and being a public personality- who had his crimes plastered all over the newspapers and so forth- I would imagine most future employers are going to know who he is- and what he has done.

He may as well just put it on his resume to save time

Still- I'm sure he will find himself one of those apologist girlfriends- who will stick by Andy through thick and thin- and constantly sell her story to the Woman's Weekly- about how she is not married to a monster- just someone who was a bit depressed and needed to watch children being raped in order to, you know... smile.

I would like to welcome Andy Muirhead to the personal Hell - he has created for himself

Would he be solitary confinement or under protection in prison given how unpopular pedos are? Would he be in a minimum security prison with Art and Pilates Classes perhaps?

Perhaps, he could earn cigarettes by writing inmates' letters or blowing them or whatever other charming barter systems they have ?

I wonder he will write the great Australian novel inside? Will anyone publish it?

I understand that there was a time when buggery carried a 14yr jail sentence. Just saying

I can't fathom the sort of sick person who gets off on babies and little children being raped and abused. I have no sympathy for him
