Mexican is finally starting to make a showing in Sydney but I find most places have been rather lacking - I do not think there is very good access to the authentic ingredients - except in cans and bottles.

And expensive.

Where's my $2 burrito?! I'm not waiting until cinco de mayo to get a $5 burrito at Guzman y Gomez.

Not to mention Panama house doesn't actually serve anything Panamanian.

you can get some ingredients at fireworks foods in north rocks or order online - tortillas are easy to make - and you can do all the fillings - beef, pork, chicken, etc... it is just the cheeses, peppers, etc that you need to get special.... it is really not complicated to make at home.

There are a lot of Latin American stores around Sydney, but most of them tend to be South American rather than Central. Good for asado though.

I love Indian food, too.

I have used Charmaine Soloman's recipes with good success - although I had to buy a lot of odd spices and I got a curry leaf tree - I tried to make naans at home - but honestly they are not like the ones made in a real tandoori oven. So, I either pick some up from a take away Indian place or I make roti or flat bread at home - which is pretty simple - like making a tortilla for Mexican...When I go out to eat - it is often Indian - there is a good place in croydon, hotel saravana bhavan - strange name but good food.
I want to buy some muslin/cheese cloth and try to make paneer - it seems fairly simple.

that sounds good - I love crackling - and you can not have pork without some apple.

I am inundated with rhubarb - after several attempts in which I had trouble getting it to grow, finally got established last year and now has gone crazy and this year is producing amazing amounts - I have to give it away - but rhubarb crumble with apples it lovely - and either a dollop of whipped cream or french vanilla ice cream - takes me back to childhood....

lentil soup for lunch - grilled steak and 3 veg for dinner - sort of boring, but I have veggies to use up.

I'm making a Spanish inspired prawn tapas type dish tomorrow night. Onions, tomatoes, prawns, spices and hot crusty bread. Full report after I finish making it.

sounds really nice - I love prawn appetizers of every sort. I have little oval cast iron pots with lids that are perfect for sizzling hot garlic prawns.
