This is a desparate situation, and I'm call on the community to help direct me to some one to help a young friend of mine. He is in a state of desparation, he is suffering from severe depression, and anxiety, and we all fear for him. He is ordinarily a very stunning guy, absolutely georgous, but he is stuck. So, luckily he has agreed to see a therapist/psychologist, but only if:

IT IS A MALE
HE IS GAY
HE IS NOT TOO OLD (MY FRIEND IS 20, AND FEELS HE CAN RELATE TO SOMEONE YOUNGER (LET'S SAY YOUNG THAN 40)).
HE PRACTICES IN SYDNEY CITY, OR THE IMMEDIATE SURROUNDING AREAS....

I would appreciate any guidance you could offer....this is critical, and a real state of emergency for our young friend to speak with someone quickly.

I sent an email off to Mum of 5 with some information I got from some psychologist friends of mine and referred her to a couple of different places.

If anyone else can help out as well, please do so. That's the update on this for now.

I have been in contact with my own pych ward here in the Hunter region. I would sugest is to phone your local hostpital to see what services are available at medicare costs. I don't know about gay phycs but talking to someone in this area will help out

I am a psychologist, however I am in America. If you were here, I would advise you to call the crisis center in your area. I don't know how things work there, but any hospital pscyh. ward would know. You could call them, and ask for the number of the crisis number for your area. At least that's how we do it.

But REMEMBER THIS: No matter that I am in America and you are in Australia, IF YOU EVER FEEL UNSAFE AND IN ANY WAY A DANGER TO YOURSELF OR OTHERS - GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM AT THE HOSPITAL IMMEDIATELY. DON'T EVEN CALL CRISIS. YOU MIGHT WANT TO CALL FOR AN AMBULANCE. MENTAL ILLNESS, INCLUDING DEPRESSION, IS A POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING MALADY.

I hope that your crisis has passed, and if you ever, ever find yourself in that scary place again - get help immediately. Don't waste time asking for referrals. Every second counts, believe me. Get thee to a hospital, seriously.
It would help me if you could let me know how things actually do work in Australia for those in psychological crises. What are you told to do, if anything? And when you're feeling better, I'd like to know what your thoughts are on the status of mental illness treatment in your country, if the stigmas exist there as they do here, etc.
But first, do take care of yourself. Be selfish. Drop EVERYTHING and get help. It just might save your life...

1800 333 497 (this is a free call referral line - not a counselling line - tell then what you are after - e.g. arbitrator / mediator, location and any other requirements such as gay issues).

Holdsworth House might be able to help.

I was referred to one but it was a she, but there are a few there. I'm sure one of the docs there can refer to one and some of them have counselling experiences.

Often the most seemingly different person to you can be the most helpful psychologist. I am a young gay psychologist. I love working with other gay people, though feel that they work just as well with my straight colleagues.

For some boys and girls the same sex attraction thing is a great burden.
It's very much about perception and at times for all of us perception is blurred.
