Hey everyone,

Its been making abit of a stir on my facebook - so im curious to see what you guys have to think.

Im on my first day of doing the lemon detox diet - and am pretty set on following it through.

Was just wondering what everyone else thinks and if any of you have done it?

Thanks guys! (and girls!)

Apart from depriving your body of a hell of a lot of nutrients I've heard it's not bad.

Fad dieting never works. In fact, once you go off the detox, you will most likely put back on all of the weight and more. A balanced diet and regular exercise is the way to go.

It upsets the electrolyte balance in your body, leaches calcium from your system & is dangerous for diabetics, anaemics, pregnant women & the elderly to undertake.
For the VERY short term (3 days) it's cleansing. Any more than 72 hours & you risk low blood pressure, constipation, dizzy spells & dehydration. Also, if must persist in doing this stupid thing for 7 days, please refrain from high-level exercise or late nights.

Its total crap.

Besides depriving your body of nutrients etc after the detox you start back eating
the foods/drinks you previously had anyway.

And the liver is quite capable in detoxing the body anyway.

If you are only drinking the lemon detox and nothing else for whatever days of course you will lose weight as you are taking in less calories but it can then make your body switch to starvation mode and when this happens your body starts to store fat !
You can also suffer mood swings/lack of energy etc.

Much better if you want to have real lemon juice in warm water first thing in the morning before breakfast........say have it as you get up and do the showering thing etc then have your breakfast.

@ Honey-prawns: I'll keep you posted here, the smells of other peoples lunches are hard - but aside from that I can't say im hugely hungry - but its only lunch on day 1.

@Phazz: Im trying to use it as a kick into a better diet, going from bad, to nothing, to better, if that makes sense. - Namely, to be shallow and vain - I want to loose weight for sleaze ball. - then work for a more effective goal.

@Asherbella: I'm hoping I will be persisting in the full week, and I'm none of those things - 19 years old, 5"10 75 killos. - and I chose an easy week, early nights and no clubbing this weekend.

@TheOldie: The syrup is meant to cover nutrients etc, whether it does or not I dont know - trying to avoid going back to all the same old foods and drinks - KFC came up abit too often in my diet.

and jimmy_ - thanks for your comment aswell.

---

If anyone has the best recomendations for a time poor public servent too improve on their general health and diet afterwards go nuts.

Lunch at work is usually either frozen meals or takeout.

Dinner currently depends on the day of the week whether I have it at all, either somthing small like noodles at home, or a decent (resteraunt) meal while eating out.

Due to early commute and sleeping in on weekls id say i might have breakfast (cereral) 1 day out of 7 at best.

Gym is at most 3 nights a week for 1-1.5 hours, usually just cardio.

---

Thanks again everyone - all views are appreciated.

jimmy_ - I leave home at 7:20 in the morning - usually trying to savour everylast minute of sleep I can get - with a usual 1:30 commute home from my work - the earliest I can usually ever be home is 6:30 - and I try my best to atleast be ready for sleep by 10 - I just need lots of sleep, I suck like that - horrible at getting up in the mornings - should just try harder I guess =)

The syrup will never cover all the nutrients you get from food.

Honestly do some searching on the web for the for's and against's.

Our bodies can get rid of toxic elements quite quickly and efficiently.

Its like people who go on a salad only diet . You are doing nothing more than teaching your body to get by on less. Fine if you are going to stick to it for the rest of your life but who does ? after too much of this kind of diet or detox the body will go into a starvation mode as its not used to what you are doing and thats when it starts to store more fat which is why people who go on these detox say they lost quite a lot of weight but put more on down the track. Oh and the other reason you lose a lot ?
is because you eventually empty out our bowels and there is a number of kg's of waste in there all the time but after a couple of days its all gone. Then in 7 days time no how good you eat , you will fill the bowels back up.

You height/weight ratio is quite fine. Why are you detoxing ?

If you want to truly detox then of course just eat healthy foods , lots of white meat with some lean read meat, fish. Cut out tea/coffee/cigarettes if you truly want to keep you body clean. Lower fats in your diet. Forget alcohol.

You can still have KFC but limit it to say once a week. My gym used to give great lectures before it was taken over by money hungry Fitness First.

They taught you about the different foods . They told us one day that the small bottles of normal coke had the equivalent of 14 cubes of sugar in it. I immediately stopped and went through a phase of wanting one but it passed and havent touched one since about 1992. The only bad take away I would have is pizza and I only have
that once every 3-4 weeks ( and I shove down a whole family size ). I still eat really good, certainly no diet foods. They said if you really crave the McDonalds/KFC then
have no more than 1 per week.
Combine this with exercise and/or gym and you will be keeping your body in good
shape.

Now if you do start getting slight dizzy spells or even disorientation throw the shit in the bin and eat

Good luck !

What about having some fruit or a healthy museli bar on the train?

Breaky is the most important meal of the day!

Alternatively you could set up a BBQ in the carriage and make everyone egg white omlettes??

@timbo84: That would be great - not much room for cooking on canberra buses though! - I should get some bars though - guess Im just abit slack! haha!

@TheOldie:

Thanks for the great reply - I know the drink won't cover much of anything - and I'd been thinking about for a few months - mainly doing it for a kick start towards hopefully a better reoutine - and to drop abit of weight for sleaze ball.

BMI might be a crappy indicator - but i'm at the high end of average - rather be on the lower - and im not a fan of my love handles - everything else is ok though.

I'm not a huge drinker (just clubbing sometimes) - dont smoke - not much red meat - hah - not sure why I have trouble as is - maybe just an unfortunate metabolism.

Gym talks sounded helpful - avoid normal coke best I can but soft spots for coke zero - and rarely eat more than 4 slives of pizza when i even do - think my main need is to just get into a better exercise routine (still hating on my lack of time)

And more fruit and veg yay!

Well im all good today - not really hungry at all .

My sister-in-law has the Lemon Detox diet gathering dust in the cupboard. Says a LOT!

Dieting is all bad. We all know it but we all look for a quick fix.

I find eating slower and paying attention to what I eat (taste, look, etc) I get fuller quicker and enjoy it more. But, I can't say much - because of my depression I either eat too much or nothing at all, it's the latter at the mo, which is just as bad.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day ! it kick starts your metabolism for the day and if you skip it you are more like to feel sluggish during the day etc.

Dinner time is the one where you should most definately be good with as you metabolism starts to slow down around 3pm'ish ( some say 2 some 4pm ) so this is where you have to be careful with what you eat. A good time to be eating the
meat/fish with salads etc.

Most people can eat what they like for breakfast ie bacon and eggs etc and similar applies to lunch but have a small light dinner with no snacks in front of the tv.
Dont be lulled into say having your KFC or Pizza at night then say have some fruit while watching the tv as fruit is sugar and the first thing your body burns as its easy and any fats left over are stored..........right onto your love handles

I am skinny build , lucky genes , but if I over indulge it hits me straight on the love
handles and its like a small plate centred around my belly button. No arse to speak off and nothing on the arms/legs......just those 2 annoying areas. But I do weights 4 times a week. I used to do cardio classes but they dumped the body burn/step classes so I go for walks around my area twice a week to maintain or 3 or 4 to burn
the love handles off.

@bellsforher: fair call - im going to follow through given i've spent the money either way.

The thing is im not a big eater as is: and my weight stays pretty balanced - I know really I just need to exercise and change the diet just abit to be better overall - just hard to change old habits.

Hope you pick up on eating again soon..

@TheOldie: Makes you wonder why we are so backwards with dinner usually being the biggest grandest meal - out on the town - or even at home - and breaky can be as small as a bowl of cereal... - just one of those things I guess.

Just going to continue doing my best I think - try and make my mornings early to make time for a good breakfast.

for some weird reason I hate breakfast - I eat it but I find it boring. I'm a 2 slice of bread and cuppa tea girl.
When i am eating I have a larger lunch and a fairly small dinner - maybe a snack of fruit before bed and a warm glass of milk. I like to go out for a good lunch at my local cafe sometimes because they give you healthy food with salad - so at least ONE of my meals is good for me! I hate cooking for myself. Food is very, very dull.

Oh no bells, I heart food!

I reckon about 75% of my facebook status's are inspired by what I ate!!

Which reminds me - need to think of something for dinner.

Don't get me wrong, food is ok, I just hate eating alone. I think of food as a social thing. I get bored cooking for myself and would seriously consider being drip fed if it meant I didn't have to cook.

Back in the old days even before me, the main meal of the day was lunch and some still have the baked lunch on a Sunday

and then dinner was something light.

Just exercise ! thats the biggest mistake people make. Diet just wont do it on its own. It will just teach your body to get by on less and you will plateau out after about 3 months.

Good luck

@ammonite: Yep, no meds for me - and I love that quote about food - I need to reshedule my life to allow breakfast for a king

Unfortunately - given how well its going I was hoping to do a full 10-14 days, but im unable to for the exact reason about - I have to be on Anitbiotics next week following abit of dental work - and cleairly they need to be taken with food.... but hey - health is more important than image!

@TheOldie: Still do exercise - just need a better and more consistant routine

Its Day 4 now - sorry for the lack of updates... its clear that im running only on liquids - if you get what im saying - thats kinda gross.

I pee alot

Hahahaha...

But hunger... not a problem - stomach/headaches - none of.

Maybe not as strong'a concentration as when Im eating - but maybe thats just my mind wandering..

Certainly not feeling ill at all.

---

Other comments: smelling nice cafes and everything is infuriatingly difficult - its the smells tempting me the most - not hunger or anything - just the smell.

Hunger will disappear to a point after few days but the cafe smells get you in !

And yes the mind wandering is one of the side effects.

Generally you wont feel ill but I bet you cant do a hard run or gym class

Just be careful of what you eat when you start back and remember you will put back some of the weight you have lost as you bowel starts to fill back up again.

I get colonoscopy check ups every few years and its no food for 24 hrs and when they weigh me at the hospital you think yah ! look at that weight loss. Then you wake up to those sandwiches and a cup of tea and wolf it down , go home and wolf more
down and voila ! you get back those kgs's you lost.

Here's a nice little slice:

There is not, nor has there ever been, ANY actual benefit relating directly to ANY detox diet.

*shock!*
