"The Victorian government is expected to announce religious groups will be allowed to discriminate against gays and single mothers in a controversial compromise reached on workers' rights.
Attorney-General Rob Hulls has approved of a plan to let church-run organisations refuse employment to anyone they believe undermines their beliefs, The Sunday Age says. The newspaper says the plan will allow church groups to discriminate on grounds of sex, sexual orientation, marital status and parental status, but in return these groups will cease being able to discriminate on the basis of race, age, disability, political beliefs, breastfeeding and physical features. The expected changes to Victoria's equal opportunity laws come several weeks before a report by a state parliament committee into the issue is due to be released. The changes have angered critics, but church leaders applauded the decision. Melbourne Catholic Archbishop Denis Hart told the paper the move strikes 'a fair and correct balance'. Under the new plans, a church group will have to prove why someone must meet certain religious beliefs if that person is refused employment. But the onus will remain on the victim to make an official complaint before any action is take." Obtained for url http://www.skynews.com.au/national/a...aspx?id=376705 This must be a Joke. Why are Victorian going back to 1950. What next ? |

Does that mean we can discriminate against people who follow a certain religious belief?

That's pretty crazy on it's own. But to think that discrimination against gay people was essentially used as a bartering tool in negotiating with these groups to win other concessions is appalling.

Gender, sex, discriminate; Catholic Church filled with hate! Same-sex attraction: abomination? Centrelink funds for gay sensation! Forgive me Father, for I have sinned: Not allowed to work 'cause I just got rimmed! |

If they are allowed to discriminate against us because of who we fuck, then I would seriously be pushing for people to either turn their backs on the entire institution of religion or physically destroy their places of worship/hatred... Pray as much as you want you fuckin' Micks but it wont save ya from a blazing petrol bomb!

So much for compassion etc. Said it before but the Church/religion has a lot to answer for in this world. |
