Hey all
![]() Back from a long hiatus from the net and after a very hectic, fun weekend... Anyone else go to the parade? I had a blast, first time and all that. The only disappointing thing was the two boys behind me, angel wings on, covered in glitter, sneering at and making comments about Amanda Lepore. In fact, throughout the parade I could hear things like "Is that a boy or a girl?" and mocking laughter. I kind of wanted to turn around and knock them both of their milk crates, but thought better of it due to the domino's effect it would probably create. But yeah, apart from that it was a great night. |

It doesn't really matter whether Amanda is a Boy or a Girl, the fact is that, as a 'Transexual' she is not representative of either 'Gay Men' or 'Lesbians' as in the name 'Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras'. This just perpetuates the myth that all 'Gay Men' want to be Women, or feminine in some way. This is not the case at all. Why have the 'Trans' community been lumped into the same group as 'Gay and Lesbian' as many Trans people are not even Gay, and I know many Transvestites that do not like to be labelled as Gay. I as a Gay man certainly do not relate in any way to a Transexual or Transvestite.

Scott, have you met a 'transgendered' person recently?
I find Amanda Lepore rather 'unsettling' but I suspect the younger generation of transgenders are quite likable. |

Poolboy, I don't think you read my Post properly. I know many 'Transgendered' people, both Transexual and transvestite and never said anything about not liking them, as I have many Trans friends. I said that I do not relate to them as a Gay man, and they do not like to be put in the same group as us as 'Gay People', as they are not always Gay.

I'd say that she is all woman!
I don't see why Trans community shouldn't be grouped with Gay/Lesbian. We all face the same ignorance, bogans, inability of the larger population to accept our "choices" (not the right word, but you get my drift). Thats why it saddens me to hear about the ignorance of those guys at the march. I'm with you Trina, very poor form. ![]() Glad you had a blast Trina ![]()

I'm so glad someone understood what I was upset about! It's disappointing, to say the least, that even within the gay community there is this instinct to make someone the "other". Lesbians and gays are marginalized in straight society, so to hear these boys in their ignorance doing the same thing to transsexuals was terrible. Quote:

according to (often inaccurate) wikipedia, not including her gender related procedures, she has had 'rhinoplasty... her eyes slanted twice, her forehead lifted, her hairline pulled down, and her brow bone reduced... and her forehead and lips injected with liquid silicone... and the lips later reduced'. (it says her gender reassignment and related procedures have been 3 breast augmentations, buttocks and hips enlarged with liquid silicone, and full genital reasignment - though it doesn't specify which procedure) being trans she may well (even probably?) have/had body dismorphia, so i completely understand why she has also felt the need to change her face. but i really think surgeons need to be more accountable for their actions - to me what has been done to Ms Lepore's face is severely negligent. ![]() |

I think I'm wise enough and maybe you should speak to a few 'Transsexuals' and Transvestites and find out how they feel about being 'Gay' when a large majority of them are Heterosexual. After working with them for 20 years, I think I know a little bit about this. Perhaps the idea of being 'Gay' in Australia is rather different to what it is in the UK? I certainly do not have an idealistic view on what Mardi gras is about, but I do have a realistic view on what it should be about. Sadly, it doesn't seem to give the right message to anyone anymore. If you really want to know what Mardi Gras is....check out this link.. http://www.americancatholic.org/Features/MardiGras/

Yeah its true the comments could have been about her appearance, but the boys I was talking about did it throughout the parade whenever they saw a transperson.

As far as I can remember, (from reading about it) it was a Roman festival held around February that involved a lot of eating and dancing etc.

She looks odd but thats 'her' thing. Too much plastic surgery, botox etc? I heard she had some ribs removed to give her 'shape'. She makes me think of Jessica Rabbit from that cartoon movie. Hyperreal, larger than life, her own special creation? I can think of no better, more appropriate, place for her than at Sydney MG.

And bisexuals get booed at Mardi Gras, fuck so much for tolerance of each other. |

Hey, I'm commenting on something I observed. I didn't see any biphobia in action at MG, but if that's true, that's terrible. I never said that the gay community is some shining example of tolerance, so I d0n't see your point.

The follow up to Matthew Mitcham was that monstrosity? Talk about backward steps.
