Chaz Bono shows off his girlfriend at a gay and lesbian event at the weekend.

The female offspring of Cher and her late ex-husband Sonny Bono is in the final stages of sex-change surgery.

And he looked delighted while smiling for cameras clutching his partner Jennifer Elia on the red carpet at the 21st Annual Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Media Awards in California.

Chaz's decision to become a man was revealed 12 months ago, after many years of being publicly gay.

Next month, Chaz, formerly known as Chastity, will ask a judge in Los Angeles for a formal change of gender and complete the transfer from she to he.



Chaz spoke out last year about the surgery, saying it was the "best decision I've ever made".

Cher commented at the time: "Although I may not understand, I will strive to be understanding."

I sympathise with poor Cherilyn Sarkisian.

All those years of scrimping and saving, dieting and cosmetic surgery, the horrors of the pogroms, all those Armenian hangers-on.

I'll be interested to see how Cher's millions will be divided after her death.
