Default Anyone ever been to Canada/Toronto.
So I'm thinking of fucking off to Canada and never coming back.

I'm putting the final touches on leaving my job etc, and have re financed my mortgage to be a modest amount- that I could pay off giving just two hand jobs a week.

Has anyone ever been to Canada.
First stop will be Toronto- where I hopefully find a job as a Mounty or some shit.

Can anyone recommend things to see and do

Toronto Scmaronto! If you're gonna move to Canada move somewhere uniquely Canadian. Toronto, although nice, is really just one big generic city.

Head west. Live in Vancouver. It's so much nicer on a visual, community and climate level. Not to mention it's got more going on in the surrounding landscape that Toronto.

1.5 hours to Whistler. Where you can find yourself a nice repressed snowboarder to spaff on.

I already have a house set up in Toronto- so that's gonna be the easiest place to start.

Really want to get to Vancouver as well- but I guess there will be plenty of time for that when I get there.

Canadians seem to like Australians.

Would you mind having a word with that Avril Lavigne and asking her to stop? Thank you.

I live and studied in Vancouver for two years could have easily stayed, fuck the east coast too cold!! Lukehuggett is right Whister is just down the road, but Vancouver on a nice day is sensational.

Walks in Stanley park, the seawall, Granvelle Island a must. Out to UBC (University of a billion Chinese) there used to be a nude beach there they had a very crusey gay scene. Be prepared for rain and lots of it.

Grouse mountain looks down on Vancouver and has awesome views at night as well as night skiing. Capilano suspension bridge is largest in world I think. The list goes on, so much to see and do, my favourite overseas destination.

I went with work a few years ago and its nice for a visit but a bit like parts of NYC.
I understand Vancouver and montreal are the way to go and are highly recommended.
And yes they are just like Australians being a commonwealth country.

Very similar sense of humour to us. When I was being driven around town I kept seeing people on the side of the road with buckets picking stuff and in parks, it got the bettter of me and asked what they were doing.

MAGIC MUSHIES right in fucking town everyone out after them hahah

Got to say that Toronto was the most tolerant place I have ever been. The gay community is huge and the people very open minded. You'll have a ball.

I prefer Vancouver - I guess it is a little more low key and the Gay scene isn't as pretentious. The harbour makes it look a bit like Sydney but cleaner somehow. Of course the fact that it rains 11 months of the year is a bit of a turn off. All the times I've been there it has been sunny and right in the middle of a lucky week in summer.

If you are going to move to Toronto, at least you've got the all-in-one Gay scene there - where they did the filming for Queer As Folk (US).

Yes, Canadians are friendlier and similar to Aussies.

One thing though - if you're going to be living in Downtown Toronto (or even Downtown Vancouver) - the main part of the city is much like an American city. It has its fair share of ugliness and crime and a rather nasty drug scene.

There's obviously lots of prettiness you can access not too far away - Niagara Falls is a wonderful day trip where you can go right into the falls on "Maid of the Mist."

There's also Ottawa, London and other cities in Ontario to visit. Plus cheapish plane fares to Montreal, Vancouver and other parts of Canada.

If I ever moved to Canada it would be Vancouver, as I said before. The people and the place is much lower-key than Toronto. The Gay scene in Toronto can be pretty ruthless pretty much like any major Gay-ghetto city.

But if you're gonna stay...

1. You've had the excitement of discovering a new city
2. You've had the fun of discovering a new Gay scene and being popular on the scene for 15 minutes
3. You've taken day trips, weekend trips etc. to other parts of Ontario
4. You've spent a week or so in Vancouver, visited historic Victoria. You've been to Calgary and gone to Banff etc.
5. You come back to Toronto after you've done it all
6. Maybe you've got a job there and then...
7. It's life in Sydney all over again.

If you're gonna live there (or anywhere) you can't do it on a whim.

There's plenty to fill your schedule for the first few months....then what?

What will you do in 6 months time? 12 months time?

How quickly will you get over the sub-sub zero winter temperatures?

Even being rich isn't enough. You have to have a plan and ask "why am I doing this? What do I want from it? Am I just running away from my problems and what if they follow me there?

British Columbia is pretty awesome, Mighty Aphrodite tells me there is a town near her that is so gay all the trash cans are pink. See you next year for Toronto Pride

Well at least LB has a plan about actually moving over to Canada...unlike Eurolad who just seems to say he is going there.

All I know about Canada is what I learned from Fargo so if you're going to kill someone, the woodchipper isn't the most inconspicuous way to dispose of their body...just thought I should give you a heads up.
