Default Weaning of Champix
What's the general opinion here ? You get a 3 month script , 2 tablets a day then what ?

I see USA users do 6 months . Is there a way to wean off in the 3 month program ? I have been on Champix 7 weeks and don't want to have to go through a bad Champix withdrawal at the end .

I must say the tablets work really well for a 40 year smoker .

I finished my Champix course 2 years ago and haven't touched a single cigarette since. I consider myself back to who I really am: someone who isn't a smoker.

As for withdrawls - I never got any after I finished my course. By the time my course was done, I'd done enough to re-adjust my habits, so that once I was off Champix, the transition was quite easy.

Big Champix discussion in this forum in a thread called "Champix" (I can't post a link to it because of not being a member long enough).

Default Thank you
It's encouraging to hear from someone who has been a non smoker after champix for such a long time .
I agree that in the 12 weeks on Champix you do learn to address your triggers and find other ways to deal with them .
I'm doing good so far and your message has been a great reassurance to me .

Thank you , Marje-anne

Varenicline (trade name Chantix in the USA and Champix in Europe and other countries, marketed by Pfizer, usually in the form of varenicline tartrate) is a prescription medication used to treat smoking addiction.

Congrats on quitting Mindi! Keep it up! and good job on trying to quit marje-anne! You have my support!

(non-smoker here, but) As for the withdrawal symptoms of Champix, my texts state to me that only "some people do experience withdrawal symptoms eg. cigarette cravings, insomnia". It does state that you can consider tapering/weaning the medication itself, however how to do this and what the best method is, is unknown." (Australian Medicines Handbook) I would perhaps raise this concern with your general practitioner and your local pharmacist to see if they have any methods devised to prevent any issues down the track!

Hi all, I am on day 49 and day 27 since I stopped smoking, so far so good I havent had a slip up although I have really wanted a cigarette from time to time. I have been smoking a pack a day or even more if out with friends of 16mg cigarettes for 25+ years and although I had people badgering me over the years to give up, I myself wasnt really ready, and I think that is a big part of giving up knowing when you are ready and really wanting to give up and I had finally reached that point. I did not stop on day 14 but cut down dramatically then basically said I would finish this pack and never buy another one which I did. I have had a few headaches but that is really the only bad symptom I have had. Also I stopped taking the evening tablet soon after I stopped smoking as most of the time I forgot to take it anyway so just take the morning tablet... I dont have much support so have pretty much done it on my own. Now my next goal is to loose weight and am aiming to have my body back by xmas this year. I do worry abit about the weaning off time as I know if I forget my morning tablet by at least midday I am really hanging out for a cigarette. Good luck to all of you trying to give up

Electronic cigarettes are IMHO the best nicotine replacement to get you off real cigarettes. See http://www.v2cigs.com/
