Default Korean Pop Music: An introduction
I'm so obsessed with Korean pop music lately. It has such high production values! The videos all look glossy and professional - better than U.S. ones half the time (and needless to say, far superior to our domestic variety ) And the singers are all so funkily dressed and fashion-forward, and the girls are cute and the boys can dance! No wonder it is sweeping through Asia. I think it is high time Australia caught the K-Pop bug

yeah autotune is huge atmo. Some really good singers have released tracks which got criticized for being "unfashionable" due to lack of autotune!!!! But generally Korean singers have pretty good vocal abilities I think.

Yay! Lets start a Seoul music tsunami! I know what you mean about the lyrics. Whenever I see them translated, I feel disappointed. And it is, of course, the ultimate well-oiled pop machine; groomed smiling stars who are underpaid and overworked to move slickly through someone else's songs. But for all that, it has a magic to it and its just - so well done! The attention to detail is amazing - every frame of every video, every hairstyle, every stuttering beat and vocoded voice track is just right.

She was Ga-in (the glamorous singer's) pimp.

Ga-in meets her sugar daddy at a servce station, and the bogan pimp tells her to service him. Instead she gets him to kill her (see blood on his cuff). He also takes back the locket the pimp stole from her.

Flash forward - Ga-In is now wealthy and sophisticated (we know this because she wears black mascara instead of electric blue, and a fur coat). But her saviour is leaving her. Devastated, she tries to kill herself, killing him in the process, and discovers that he still has the locket! He still loved her!

Then she drives away crying down the same road they once drove down happily before.

I'm not sure what the suitcase in the harbour was at the beginning. Maybe he robbed money from the bogan pimp as well as killing her?

Korean videos often have very sophisticated narratives. It is not all spelled out in the same way that American movies join the dots for you, but it does make sense. And the sound editing is incredibly sophisticated too - notice when the music drops out for a line of dialogue etc.

It is the same with this clip. I didn't understand the twist at the end with the first few viewings:
And the sound editing is jsut incredible eg, when the music drops out for the "car racing" effects, or disorienting stereo "whispering" in the "you are dumped" scene at the start"
