If she was "so bad" the first time round, why did 'Read my Lips' make it to number one (becoming the biggest-selling single of the year), followed by 'Sexy is the Word' which made it to number 3?

Im sorry to be the one to tell you but to get a record in the charts has nothing to do with how many people buy it. Its how many get shipped to record shops. This is why most hits are made by major record companies because nobody else can compete with the amount of units they put out. This is how many of the Australian Idol records and others are released at number one etc. A lot of these records shipped also end up getting sent back.
So at the end of the day a number one record does not equal a quality record.
Having said all that it is also important to note that the mainstream record buying public generally tend to buy crappy bland generic music that is spoon fed to them rather than seek out quality music themselves. This is why talentless bimbos such as Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Melissa Tkautz get popular whilst most real talent never even sees the light of day.

Melissa was great at the Xmas Party, such a fun girl and she can really sing.

Marly, contrary to what you might suggest, it is actually quite an accomplishment to get a #1 record and there are lot of factors in it - talent, marketing, timing. You also didn't answer my original question: did you come along on Thursday night?

It has very little to do with talent and a whole lot more to do with marketing and connections. She was just pumped out by the machine as another soapie starlet who already had a degree of exposure and so therefore was a good gamble for the record company. So what happened after that, she dissappeared as most of them do and went on to appear in some tragic failure of a soap opera set on the gold coast which was so insignificant that I cant remember the name. Now she reappears trying to get some gay cred to help her abysmal come back. She couldnt sing before and she cant sing now. Shes the epitomy of crass commercialism and hopefully soon to dissappear again LOL

I agree with marly again, record companies can easily create a number one single, it is VERY little to do with actual real sales these days.

well nobody said she was the best talent in the world but she's well known, a good sport and she had a good time as did a lot of other people...

I welcome your oppinion though even if I dont agree. Its healthy for all sides to be heard. I admit I am very outspoken but basically I couldnt care less what people like you ,who Im glad I'll never have the misfortune to meet, think about what I have to say.
