I loved Wellington when I was there this year. Lovely city. SM's is beautiful and the IVY is tre-cool with all it's hip artsy wannabes.

Try and find somewhere to stay in the flat part of the city... walking up the hill to your hotel once the sea level entrance has closed is killer!

Close your eyes for the aircraft landing... particularly if it's windy!

My partner and I both love Wellington. We go over every 6 months (for special occasions). Te Papa is awesome, and one suggestion (that didn't appear in the article) from us would be 'The White House' on Oriental Bay. Any cab driver will know it. Hardly signed, and completely inconspicuous, it has to be Wellington's best restaurant. It's a bit pricey (but cheaper than most fancy aussie restaurants), and you'd need to book in advance to get a table by the big bay window - but the degustation menu is superb. As a fan of a good degustation menu, having enjoyed the best, this one is in the top three.

I lived in Wellington for a year in Eastbourne ..loved the vibe of the place /city and friendly people ..but the weather sux ..however nothing can beat it when it's sunny :0
