Newtown squats on the chest of Oxford Street and leaves a steaming turd on it.
It is no measure of health- to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

oxfordt st is still the better gay hub as it holds all the venues. As much as I hate the shit there its still a better night life as newtown dies very early.

Newtown hands down for dining and overall atmosphere.

each are good for different reasons and therefore I wouldnt be able to choose an over better place. they are godo for different reasons and therefore can't be compared like that.

taxi club is a tranny meat market where married tranny chasers go to get all exotic and stuff. I have been assaulted there a few times. I have also been assaulted by staff at ARQ and been turned away from the palms because some of my friends were straight. One of my hooker friends was picked up near The Shift and assaulted with a razor blade. One T girl vanished, last scene on oxford St 2002. Gay men get bashed around Oxford St regularly.

I love the taxi club but it's not really on Oxford St is it if we're gonna get all pedantic.

I prefer Newtown. It's my scabby, dirty patch to shit on.

As a visitor from the UK...Newtown for sure...Oxford Street is shameful, unsafe, unfriendly and an embarassment to gay people.

Thanks for agreeing, but that's a bit bloody rude, as well as racist. But hey! Aussie humour! Gotta luv em.

And that is the big problem with Oxford Street now. It is a place where the whole of Sydney goes to "party on" (not just the gays). Whereas before it offered a lot more with lots of gay bars but also good shops and restaurants

I don't see them as very different. Because "Oxford St" IS also Darlinghurst/Surry Hills.

Apart from the late Fri & Sat night thing, there's heaps of restaurants in Surry Hills, like Newtown and I've been to The Bank many times when it has resembled a straight pub in Paddington. I've seen plenty of 20something drunks on King St, and there are plenty of wanky restraunts too. Remember Newtown's "shabby chic" is still a construct. Alot of rich people live in Newtown. The rent is pretty much on par with Surry Hills/Darlo.

Saying that, I'm thinking of moving to Newtown - mainly because it seems there's more people there in daytime, but may settle on Redfern, a bike ride away from both!

Exactly! Which's why I hardly ever go there anymore, except for special events - probably around 5 times per year - and it's just too dangerous nowadays. However on the other hand, MG's the only time I feel "safe" there as there's so many of us around (nevermind the fact that I got groped by some females )
