26th of January - to me it's a pretty rotten date to celebrate our country. The Aboriginals refer to this date as 'Invasion day'. To me its the wrong kind of blood a county should celebrate its birth.

My opinion, I think we should celebrate Australia day on the 3rd of December, which was when the battle of the Eureka stockade was fought. Although it is considered a 'Victorian thing' it involved labourers from all over Australia, and was the birth of democracy in Australia, and some beleive the Birth of our nation itself as it was a revolt of free men against imperial tyranny.

Or maybe even the 1st of January, the date when our six colonies became a federation and the commonwealth of Australia was formed...

AND also, our shit flag, theres like a dozen other flags with half the same shit on it, I personally like the Aboriginal flag, it seems relevant, a big fuckin circle which represents the sun..

We need more public holidays in the second half of the year. After the Queen's Birthday in June we get nothing until Labour Day in October. Surely something important happened in Australia in August.

We should change it to cringe day cause thats what it makes me feel like doing every year. The whole flag wearing thing & seeing the drunken yobs crap on about how we are 'the best country in the world' and chant that fucking awful

I dont need to have a humungous flag flying off the back of my car, nor do I need one on my face or anywhere to prove that Im 'truly australian' because Im not insecure about it and I have nothing to prove.

with all due respect, unfortunately the Aboriginal flag is tokenistic and repserents a small portion of the Australian population. yeah they may have originally settled the land but Australia's strong foundations were built by waves of immigration from the early British settlers to the current multicultural migration. I cannot think of any flag that would best replace the current one.

we may hate it when the Pommies beat us in cricket etc but we can never disassociate ourselves from the British DNA that runs through most Australians' blood and the contribution to the modertization of Australia (and America and Canada) through the efforts of the Pommie Invaders from whose blood and flesh most modern-day Australians came.

That's interesting, something I didn't think of.

Apparently that flag is trademarked and it wasn't allowed to be used by Google for their changing of their front page to celebrate Aus Day yesterday.
