That Adrian Bartels should cover his head in shame for running for the Liberal party. He obviously has no dignity left.

Gay Liberal = Self-hating homosexual.

Seriously, how can he spout all those platitudes when the party he belongs to has fought gay equality both at the state and federals levels every step of the way.

So, Adrian, you like to "go out and party"? What's your position on drug law reform?

I'm surprised that Independent Andrew Patterson (backed by the Australian Sex Party) wasn't interviewed

I stopped my car today and tore down a Christine Kenneally sign this morning. I feel like I have done something useful today.

Have an impact on election day, grab your ballot paper, tie it to a brick and throw it at a cop-car.

Clover has served Sydney well, yet she is starting to get out of touch with modern society and it's time she moved on and let some fresh blood into the seat. Adrian Bartels has got the right attitude and ideas to represent Sydney in a modern way. What better voice for the GLBTI community to have than an intelligent, contemporary , realistic gay representative in parliament.

Clover Moore has stood up and fought for gay rights for over 20 years (and was doing it before anybody else was) and if re-elected she will keep on doing it. She is the best friend of the gays. She is also one of the most progressive politicians out there with her views on equality, the environment, transport, the future of sydney etc. etc. She donates her entire Lord Mayoral salary to charity every year (almost 1 million dollars to date) and she is an INDEPENDENT. No idea why anyone would want to let Liberal or Labor take Sydney out of independent hands (especially such good hands!). The major parties and their MPs just have to follow the party line and go along with the decisions made by the backroom men and their vested interests. Clover stands up to the big vested interests and does what she thinks is right for the people of this State. Clover needs our vote!

Clover Moore is good in some ways(public transport) but very bad in others(higher population density).

She thinks Sydney can succeed as an International city without skyscrapers and high rise apartment blocks. Which is ludicrous, no international corporation will set up shop in a city without the commercial floor space required and the density of population and economic activity.

Good point and you can have a major economic center of an international standard with green credentials without compromising essential needs.

To a point. But Clover isnt all about 'green' she is more about aesthetics.

She is very nimbyish in the sense she doesnt want tall buildings because it causes shadowing or blocks out views of the harbour. She doesnt want more skyscrapers cause she want ANOTHER park( for fucks sake how many bloody parks do we need?).

People with her nimby mentality is holding Sydney massively back. We need a full scale massive infrastructure programme getting rid of all these dead sections in the city - Barangaroo, White Bay, Glebe Island, Redfern ect and build BIG. Big will create jobs, economic investment and higher population density for a greater utilisation of public transport.

I agree and with contemporary architecture and urban design you can have a built environment with minimal shadowing, good view coverage, plenty open park space and usable public transport and safe access for cyclists and pedestrians (unlike Clover's bike paths which are a blatant safety hazard).

same thing happened with that xstian nutters mobile advertising truck when it was left near some mardi gras event.

do we have to lower ourselves to that standard?

we live in a democracy and these things get decided in the ballot box by all of us. not just a few people who think they know better.

I'll vote Clover for sure. Not just because of 20 years of backing our community. And not just becasue I am sick of Liblab rorts (and tax funded papal visits) but mainly because when there is a problem in my area or with a non-functioning government services. the folk at Clovers office are all over it, whereas the Liblab people dont call back...or if they do its with a lame "not my area" response.

I wouldn't exactly describe as intelligent given that he decided to belong to a political party which has always vilified gays

As far as I am concerned he is a delusional wicked fool.

Sydney has the worst ration of green spaces to population of the Australian capitals and one of the lowest in the developed world. London, Rome and Paris and have many more people than Sydney and none has high rise apartment buildings. In fact they don't have high at all. Only london manages 30 story buildings. I do not want to live in an ugly sardine packed place like Hong Kong or NYC. There, development has gone unchecked and as a result those in highrse units looks out of their windows straight into another highrise unit. Sydney, until Clover Moore, has not had a long term plan. She has done Moore for the GLBT cause than any other single politician in the country over a long period, and might I add, before it became trendy. You only have to look at the complete schamozzel labour has made of NSW to see what they are all about. The Libs are completely useless. They have no policy and simply poo-poo everything labour does. The greens are supportive of the GLBT community, but apart from a gay national leader, what have they ACTUALLY done for us? I struggle to think of anything.

Oh, and the bike paths are fabulous. They are easy and safe to use. people who don't use them don't seem to like them, funny that.

It's good to see lots of Clover supporters on here. While we're on the subject I wanted to point out just some of the stuff Clover has achieved in her last term alone that I think was really worthwhile:

Stood up to the AHA and the big pokie-filled pubs and introduced small bars legislation which has led to lots of funky little bars opening up around Sydney, led the successful campaign to save Moore park and stopped the Government from handing it over to the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust and their use of the parklands for cricket members parking, convinced the Government to finally approve expansion of the light rail system through the CBD plus consider other routes and introduced a bill allowing same sex couples to legally adopt and legitamise existing same sex families.

That last achievement is pretty significant in NSW. She fought for years to get same sex adoption legalised. While I know she still has a lot of gay supporters, I have been worried that some of the younger gays were going to vote for a certain other candidate just because he also happens to be young and gay. It would be a real shame if we turned our back on Clover after she has achieved such significant reform for the gays... not a very nice thank you!

Bullshit, Sydney has 14 National Parks all within easy reach. Several of them are actually within the metropolitan zone itself.

London, Paris and most other European cities have much higher population density than any Australian city. As for not wanting to be packed like sardines well then you can go live in a country town because this is a city and needs to start acting like one. There is no such thing as a 'village' in a city, its a load of bullshit.

There is a reason why NYC and Hong Kong are economically superior and it has nothing to do with bike paths.

Hmm why so angry? Try to relax.

Manhattan is actually filled with lots of little villages - they even call them that. Village doesn't have to mean little country town with a bunch of shacks if that's what you are thinking. New York's villages are a collection of quirky and interesting neighbourhoods each with their own style and identity. That's what they are aiming for in Sydney

I am angry because I HATE NIMBYISM!

It destroys so many lives to benefit a few rich elites. Hundreds of thousands of jobs can be created but oh no it will block out my multi million $ penthouse views, oh no i will only have 5 parks to walk my shiatzu in instead of the 38 that I demand. Oh no a train line will bring in the lower class peasants to exclusive real estate!

Alan, you may be from New Zealand but you're displaying your ignorance here.

The Improvement Board commenced in the 1880s.

Look at the 1905 works which demolished half of Oxford St .

Look at the 1948, 1960s and 1988 and the 1990s plans.

Everyone laughed at Madam Moores's ludicrous ideas to demolish the Western Distributor and turn George St into a meadow.

Do you mean the independent report commissioned to improve the city's traffic flow? I think you might find it wasn't her idea, though I think getting the cars out of George would be fabulous! What a wonderful Idea. Perhaps you should read the report right through. Perhaps you might find something to make you a little less angry
