This weekend I went to the Gold Coast to visit my aunty who has just moved to the Gold Coast, and primarily to attend my oldest friend's, whom I've known and kept contact with since kindergarten, going away to Europe party.

So come midnight last light my friend, his friend and I decided to go to Surfer's Paradise - which was my first real taste of nightlife at Surfers and nightlife on a saturday night in general.

Since my friend knows and previously worked with the owners of the gay bar Escape, we decided to head there for the night.

I had a great time there - despite my shyness and nervousness I wasn't expecting it to be small, but it was rather smug I don't know if it was just for the night, but there were blow-up alien balloons everywhere, along with many glow-in-the-dark neon ribbon thingsw I rather loved that sci-fi-ish feeling that was going on hehehe.

The music was loud enough to rattle my rib cage, with all the laser lights flashing everywhere. I also got to see the drag show featuring Trans Formers(?) wearing some interesting Tron-like garb

What I liked most was the balcony section they had - it was a comparatively quiet and exclusive area, being two storey's up, near the beach under the skyscrapers, with Jupiter shining brightly above - making it all seem a bit magical

Apart from being at Sporties twice for the post-Brisbane Pride march night, this was the first time I experienced a bar/club on a saturday night after midnight.
I'll admit that the clubbing scene isn't really for me, I can certainly see the attraction of going out to places like Sporties and Escape for the weekends.

In concluding this unexpected novel (oops) I had a fantastic time at Escape this weekend.
Out of curiosity, were there any samesamers there on Sat 24th Sept? If not how many SameSamers have gone before?

I never went to escape at my short stint in the Gold Coast, i do however have them on facebook and check out their pics regularly. Why do guys wear make up if they aren't doing a show????

LB - no, nobody "touched me on the purples". To be honest I don't know what my reaction would be if someone did That said there were alot of twinks about - and plenty more good lookin' lads wandering the streets/bars/clubs etc. I may have discretely observed some of the guys that night

Faerie - I did avoid eye contact, mainly because I was dodging all the dropped food and other miscellaneous detritus and filth scattered around the place. Though it did rain for a bit, by then we were safely travelling home via taxi hehehe

even though it was for four days, it was such a rushed trip. the weather was magic though, and it was awesome to be back on the beach and swimming in the ocean again after being so far inland away from the coast for the last few months.

so i went out tonight and saw a couple of places i haven't been to before.

Shooters was kinda fun, for a crap version of the Family in the city. there were four good songs, which was nice.

Pictures bar was a bit schmancy but pretty much deserted. there was a boy in a teddy bear suit. his friend was covered in fake blood and claw marks. i was dancing with the teddy bear but it took its face off and i sort of wished it hadn't so i left.

Hollwood Showgirls was amazing. watching girls slide down poles without giving their labia friction burns is actually pretty entertaining.

all the guys were just sitting there looking mean-spirited. the only dude who was getting into it was this sixty-something guy who was having a grand old time shoving notes into garters. when i am old i will probably do this with my super.

then there was the collective fat bitches corner where they just sat in the corner and bitched collectively while also being fat. i heard the word 'stretchmarks' more than a few times. i'd like to see them straddle a pole without swallowing it.

but overall... everytime i go, i am reminded that

it's so true. all the boys are short and stocky and wearing the same clothes and hair and all the girls are even more generic.
there were some halloween costumes around, i counted 7 harajuku-wannabe-baby-doll-whores in the space of 5 minutes and they weren't even in the same group. it was like some sort of sailor moon fanclub nightmare crossed with a historic re-enactment of the cronulla riots.

then i went to escape but i had no money so i just walked up the stairs and back down so i could tell you all that i went there again but mostly talk about the strippers and bogans.

that's the end of the story.
