Hi,

As you can see I'm pretty new to this site: I'm just wondering if any gay clubs in Sydney play indie/alternative music? Or even some techie-progressive house music.

You stay classy now Sydney.

I wish!

Hot damn or SFX will be your closest place for alternative music, and a lot of gay guys hang out their to.
77 has great music on saturdays and is also gay friendly.

Not that I've encountered unfortunately...

There are a few lesbian nights that play good indie music though. Can't remember what they were called though...

@scottee: cheers, might check them out.

@pioneer: thanks, I'm not sure being the only Gay in the Lesbian Village would be appreciated.

Perhaps I should start a night where indie/alternative/rock'n'roll loving LGBTers can release their inner rocker. Although if the places scottee suggests are gay friendly, perhaps this is the ultimate in bridging the gulf. One nation under the Rock Gods.

Bad Dog, which was just on and i think another is on in Jan, but easily one of the best parties.

also some friends put on a night a little while back called velvet hammer which had a heap of rock bands and DJ's playing all sorts of music, if they do something again it'd definitely be worth going to.

Could you give us an idea of what kind of bands and/or artists they play at Hot Rod/Gay Bash?

Cheers again.

I've been to the Oxford Hotel a few random times and the music has been really good (indie/alt type stuff). I'm pretty sure these occasions were Thursday nights.. pretty packed with good lookers too ;P

I wish there was more indie/alt music played at gay pubs too.. i know plenty of straight places but yeh.. if u find something cool let me know! lol

oh shit, completely forgot buzz, duh. Thursday nights with ben drayton and the naked barber doing buzz cuts, playing everything you don't normally hear, lots of rock, punk, weird electronica etc etc

gay bash and hot rod play a whole mix of stuff, i'd say its a bit like the purple sneakers nights, anything from the strokes, to nicki minaj, florence, robyn, lcd soundsystem, and a shitload more and some 80's stuff as well, its a massive mix of different bands

They all sound the goods: it seems like I won't need to spend bottomless pits of non-ricocheting moneys setting up my own thang. How shit! I was really looking forward to wasting some $Jackies: - on something meaningful.
