Here are some personal comments from Jesse— who tells us he's 'marched three times in little short shorts and a very tight singlet'.

Highlights include~

0.00 My day on Iphone

3.40 'fag hags are pretty much gay men'

5,05 'Mardi Gras are doing this all this for you'

5.23 'you don’t have a right to complain'

7.44 'we won't have a mardi gras and it'll be your fault…we will lose our economy… who cares if they're straight bogans'

8.42 'you people need to do your homework'

see also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxJpBtmLcY0

(I'm not complaining about Mardi Gras because I think it's time to stop it because it's outlived it's usefulness.)

He's got that Hipster hair thing going! You should have posted this in that wretched * VTI's Hair thread!

*She has a disdain for being referred to as nice, so wretched it is.

I agree with him for the most part, when you consider that the rest of the Gay world is and has become inclusive.

I've been to big events where you just get stared down by throbbing throngs of big burly gay men, some of my friends look like straight girls. I think the real issue here is inclusion.

Parts of our community "dont" want to be inclusive and they will fight tooth and nail to keep it that way.

Shame Sydney gays shame

+1 with Dat, I support most of Jesse's points.

I've Marched since I was 18, in 2008 and 2009 .

2010 I was with Media for a local gay magazine.

and 2011 I organised a group of 100 people from Canberra, the Capital Queers.

I personally support the change.

I first marched in 97, have supervised 2 MG trans floats, ran a MG Trans FM radio program and been to countless MG parties.

Seeing that the next generation seems more comfortable with their sexuality and wants to mainstream is perhaps a healthy sign of progress. However, citing market research for Mardi Gras' naming decision leaves me a little disturbed. If your job is to sell widgets or swing elections... i can see the appeal of using it, but culture and the arts (if i can be so brave), and matters of substance and worth shouldn't be belittled by slick rick ‘boffins’ trying to justify their 'marketing and comms' salary, or new CEO appointment, with so-called 'innovation'. So what if you find some people don't feel attached to Mardi Gras or their friends weren't - what that is telling you is that it isn't for them. You like vanilla, I like chocolate – and some don’t care for ice-cream at all. Changing a name isn't going to bring them flocking. DoCS recently changed back to FaCS… and do you think they fooled anyone? In the end, despite how abhorrent, some gays just aren't into a parade (and i'm one).

The mistake that internal party polling nimrods make is to get feedback from people who don't vote for them. When you start chasing those who 'just aren't into you', you may risk alienating those who already are.

But it's just my opinion, and what do I know.

Oh dear.... Market research is what made change necessary? If the research was accurate then it should have predicted the backlash, no? And as for the Sydney Morning Herald - "Mardi Gras Festival Goes Straight..." - I've no doubt it was sensationalist and inaccurate but mainstream media and a lot of straights tend to do that with GLBTQI issues. Isn't market research also meant to give you ideas to remedy that?

I'm reminded of last years election... ALP research said if they went to the election with Rudd as leader they would lose ten seats. They replaced him with Gillard and lost eleven. What are the chances they're still relying on the same research?

I find him a rather petulant but I concede Jesse makes the most important point of all: Inclusiveness is in the events MG put on. Volunteer. Join a float. At the very least, take a banner, flag or feather boa to wave at the parade. Here's a slogan for Sydney Mardi Gras: Inclusion means participation. Just do it! (A shame Nike already have that last bit.)

No fag hags are not gay men, they are straight women wishing gay men were straight men and subsituting having a relationship with a straight man to having slumber parties with gay guys.

But everything else he said was pretty much on the mark.

No it's an overactive case of penis envy. If they capture a straight guy then they only get one penis. Get a gay guy and there are alot more penises involved.

But I agree, fag hags are strange creatures. Almost to the point of some level of dysfunction or mental disorder.

And i mean real fag hags, who purposely go out and find gay men to fill their world, not just women who happen to be friends with gay men.

but with a straight guy she can get a penis in her vagina, unless she gets the guys guys really drunk and when they pass out date rapes them in thier sleep . Which ive heard has happened before.

Penis envy isn't about penis in vagina. It's a case of penis INSTEAD of vagina.

At least according to that crack head Freud.

I still think fag hags have a mental disorder. "Penis penis everywhere, but I'll always be rejected" type of syndrome.

But everything else he said was pretty much on the mark.

I've known a few that have eventually bedded the boys ( no date rape , just rotten drunk ) and it usually ended in disaster. Quite a few were actually in love with the guy and/or mistook all the cuddling/hugging etc as a come one.

I have 1 now in my group and she was more into getting trashed which she did with some of my group. She partied with us in the Hordern days then just stayed on the grog and ended up in rehab .

I see it Light Bearer, yet it has to change to make it less about the stereotypes of parties, pretty people, gang bangs and more about what really matters.

Not everyone has geniune compassion and is a seeker of truth like yourself Light Bearer.

I pity and fear the future myself, I can see where this is going and GLBTIQ people have no one to blame except themselves. For far too long they have allowed false prophets, seekers of hedonism and indulgence of the ego run reign over organisations such as Mardi Gras, ACON and others in GLBTIQ culture. There are very few people who genuinely give a damn about their fellow person in GLBTIQ culture and this is why we are seeing what is happening now.

True liberation on the other hand is when people are true and open about themselves everyday in everyway and everywhere. No one's free until we are all free.

Face it there is no gay community.

From a personal point of view I would rather associate with people of my own class, race, nationality and gender then I would with say an overly effeminate Filipino gay boy who is an imported whore yet still goes to Catholic mass.

I have no loyalty or care for the wider gay population, aside from those who are actually part of my people.

I agree shazz.

My gayness isn't who I am or even what I am, it is just a word that I or others can use to describe someone who is attracted to their own sex. Yes I'm attracted to men but outside of the bedroom my gayness isn't a very big deal - in fact it's totally not a deal at all. I live a perfectly happy life without the need to constantly remind everyone (including myself) that I am a homosexual. I have a very wide and diverse circle of friends and what or who I choose to shove up my arse has never been a major issue of conversation with any of them.
I happily acknowledge the fact that others consider their sexuality as being at the heart of who they are but I don't.

I tried incredibly hard as a teenager and young man to fit into "the scene" but the scene didn't want me because I didn't fit the mould of how a good homosexual should act/dress/behave etc. Despite failing "Gayness For Beginners 101" and despite being a gay-outsider I still managed somehow to live a very full and satisfying life outside of the gay community... but I am still gay, very, very, VERY gay.

I feel for Jonah because I know how it felt for me when I was an kid struggling to be accepted and to accept myself... and yes I even attempted suicide when it all seemed too hard. It's hard enough just being young and trying to find out who you are and where you fit into this fucked up world without the extra head-fuck of being gay and feeling like you don't fit in anywhere.

Well Jesse is an 'emerging' media star who's into advertising and PR. He does apologise for his ignorance and grammar in the first two minutes of this one.
