Default Get me off of the couch
Have been a bit of a tv/couch spinster for a while, but would sometimes like to go out on the weekend.

In need of suggestions - particularly southside options - of places an solo oldie can go for a weekend drink and to be around other people.

35 years old is classed as an "oldie" - I think not!

Depends. If you use GrindR, it's considered very old. I'm 33. :-(

Grindr's full of rude, obnoxious trolls. It doesn't matter if you're 18, 24, 28, 40, or 50 you'll still come across rude people with their heads shoved up their arses.

Well very true. LOL.
Certainly in coming weeks once I get my very busy schedule out of the way in the next fortnight, I would be quite keen to make some new friends at some point, so I too might be also interested in catching up with some people on a friendship basis to socialise with, go out for dinner sometimes, hit one of the bars with. So perhaps one of us could organize something. Im happy to do it once I get my stuff sorted out.

Ok perhaps I can rephrase:

In need of suggestions - particularly southside options - of places a 35 y/o can go for a weekend drink and to be around other people and NOT feel like an oldie.

Cool, I half-suspected that that was the shape of things!

1970's babies are numerically one of the smallest cohorts of the past century, and there doesn't even seem to be a substantial conglomeration of us anywhere. In light of the massive populations born in the surrounding decades, we've simply never been a target-population wooed by businesses and have been too much of a demographic minority to contribute to a broader zeitgeist. We were born to wear the outsider hat; accepted but not really belonging.

Life is definitely tough... I've forgotten what this thread was about -- (must be babies from the 50's are all suffering from dementia!) .. oh... getting off the couch...
I'm going to join the Bent Kranks -- just love that name ---- I might even go on one of their rides.
I joined the Nomads a couple of months ago--- but certainly won't be venturing out with them until the weather picks up!! (Whimpy I know).

seems like everyone on this thread is hanging around waiting for someone else to organise something...
why don't you pick a day and name an event (its your thread after all) and we'll see who turns up!! As long as it's not pole-vaulting - I could be onboard!!!

Yes thats right, many of the posters are looking for something to participate in and not to reinvent wheels which may already exist. The OP was an attempt to find exisiting 'wheels'.

OP? original post?? I'm feeling pretty proud of myself for eventually working that out ! hope i got it right!!

or Old Poof....????

so... bottom line -- is anything happening this side of the yarra? tenpin bowling at Moorabbin bowling club-- has anyone ever been there -- is it full of hoons??? I've no idea!

golf anyone (not for this little black duck - I played once with my mum and I was seven shots by the time i got to the women's tee) but some of you other chaps might like to give it a go-- i could meet you at the 19th hole for a few bubbles!!

Lunch at the cafe at the end of North Road - on the beach -- have to sharpen the elbows on the weekend though - lots of Brighton Ladies with their poodles (don't knock poodles -I've got one sitting on me right now!)

Lunch on the deck - or by the fire looking at the deck at the Mordialloc pub - can watch the idots putting out to sea in all those fishing boats --- would you eat fish caught in Port Phillip Bay??? don't think I would! i think they have a few pool tables that aren't smothered in lesbians - could be fun after a nice pub-grub lunch!! anyone interested??? anyone actually prepared to give anything a go, or are we all just going to keep whinging and really can't be bothered making the effort???????

want to go fishing on one of those charter boats -- I took my dad out on one for his birthday - caught nothing and they cooked sausages and gave us bread using fingers covered in guts and slime and worms.... a tad cold for this one at the mo??

lawn bowls in leila road Carnegie?? you need your own balls... oops ... bowls... there's a bocce 'rink' there as well - but you might as well just throw a fucking rock in the air as far as I'm concerned....

Ice skating in Centre Road south OAkleigh -- queens on the rocks!!!! could be fun if you don't value your fingers (I stopped when I saw someone lose a finger when their friend went over their hand) I could stand on the sidelines and yell out "watch out for your fingers!" every time you fall over!!

How about we pretend we're a Time Team and all turn up in Centenary Park in East Bentleigh and dig up the football oval - and just for fun -- right in the middle of a game--- mind you--- the players down there are all about 15 and as rough as guts -- that might be a turn of for some of you, but I'd rather just smack them with the shovell!

well... that's about it for ideas for South of the Yarra from me --- for now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
