Default What punishment should HIV spreaders get?
So Stuart McDonald has been arrested for allegedly infecting up to 12 men with HIV...

As these cases become more common, what do you think should be done to show these people that their behaviour is not only thoughtless and selfish, but morally reprehensable and criminal!

Do you think that giving these guys a prison sentence will make them realise that their behaviour ruins peoples lives? What do you think should be done with ppl like this?

Default Hmm
If all the stereotypes are true, wouldn't prison be a great place to 'spread' HIV infection?!?

I think if someone is twisted enough to do this to people on purpose it shows they have some serious mental problems that need to be seen to.

Prison is a horrible place, especially for a gay male.

whatever happened to people taking responsibility for their own sexual health?

that is very true.. but some of these cases describe rape ..

in the end we are all responsible for our own behaviour.. and the choices we make have to be lived with...

At the very least:
-pay medical bills of the victim for treatment
-adequate imprisonment time with rehabilitation
-name on the sex offenders list
-manslaughter charges added if victim dies

Perhaps:
-life imprisonment

If I believed in capital punishment:
-life imprisonment, straight up
-death sentence if/once victim dies

Just my thoughts though.
Do you think it would be then different if HIV was passed on by accident? Would there still be severe consequences for someone who did it without meaning to? I suppose it begs the thought that 'spreaders' would try and pretend it was an accident if the consequences weren't good enough, but there's not just one way of looking at it...

I think it should be treated the same as either intent to harm/kill or manslaughter. depending on the situation.
I think there should be room also to prove exactly when they knew they had said disease.
If it can be proven they did not know at the time of sex, then something similar to child maintence is in order.

rape is one thing, if you have forced people to have unsafe sex so that you can infect them, well that's hideous.

but i think people should realise that unsafe sex is unsafe sex. when you go down that road you have to trust someone enough, and know someone enough, to make sure they are worth that risk.

this notion of 'spreaders' - most of the time it's just scapegoating. sure, some people might be going out there and are trying to infect others - and they're obviously in a destructive place - but the people who decided to fuck without a condom need to realise they are just as much to blame for them having HIV then the person who gave it to them. we are too used to pointing the finger in our society and it will be our undoing.

just cos you're positive that doesn't require you to tell every casual fuck you have.

I agree, charges should be similar to intent to harm/kill or manslaughter - serve 20 years per infection.. and carstration.. how demolarising!
