Hey! I'm Frankie, and in about a weeks time I'm due to move to Sydney. I'm from the UK and coming all on my own so will not know anyone when I arrive! Could you guys give me some advice on the best gay/lesbian bars and best places to meet people? ANY advice is appreciated as I've never been to Australia before!

Just keep reading the threads and you will pick up on bars/venues. Really all depends on what types of bars/crowds you prefer.

SameSame have a regular meet up and are due for one soon so go along and meet some of the posters.

Cool, I've been checking out a load of threads but I'll definitely look out for the ones about bars. So far I've found out that 'Newtown' and 'Oxford street' are the places to go but it seems that the opinion of some is that Oxford street is not as good as it once was? I can't wait to get there and have a good explore! I'll definitely be looking out for threads on the next meetup! Thanks!

Also I take it there are quite a few 'poms' in Oz at the moment then? 😊

quite a few Oxford St venues taken over by straights and/or straights/hens parties going to the gay venues and their has been trouble.

Def turn up to a SameSame meet up as the guys/girls will head off to some venues and its better to be with someone or group than discovering on your own.

Pick up the local gay rags - SX News , Star Observer and you will see ads for venues and dance parties etc.

Sydney is pretty gay in itself, the closer to the city the more gay and other sexualities are present and catered for.

It's easy to steer you in the direction of Gay Mecca aka Oxford Street and be done with it but I reckon it depends on what sort of person, gay or otherwise, you are.
