The film Mysterious Skin I thought was a very good but disturbing film, for it is a very difficult film to watch. But at the same time it is a powerful look at the damage that child sex abuse does to it's victims.

Also on different side note, agree with Ash, Gods And Monsters was a fantastic film.

Thinking of an Aussie film I can't put the name to.
It does have Johnn Jarrett in it (pre Wolf Creek), its pre 2005. Probably a mid '90's film. In the film, the father (played by John Jarrett) has a son that dresses up as a girl to sing with in a band which is all girls. I also reckon the film is set in Qld.
Can anyone recall the film and it's name?
Cheers,
Dion.

Cruising is a great movie! Very surreal yet real. Unbelievable to think that was NY 45 years ago!

Boys in the Band is brilliant too, should be on the list. Don't see what's so gay about Irreversible. It's just perverted and saying it's possibly gay themed is like saying it's possibly about My Little Pony.

Watched that and found it AWESOME,

I saw Maurice, Boys in the Band & Cruising from a list like this?

Oh and you must watch Withnail and I.
Probably my favourite movie of all time. It's just perfect.

Read a biography on Quentin Crisp yesterday (a cross dresser who always wanted to be a woman and dressed as one from a young age) from cover to cover in 6 hours. Compelling man, life and opinions.

Read the biography on James Kirkup, a little known gay pommy gay writer who migrated to Japan and worked in a university.

Reading Obsession: Life of Calvin Klein. He's pretty gay lol but it seemed he never openly accepted it. Maybe he does by the end of the book? Would love to read a biography on Yves Saint Laurent next.

Always wanted to read some Christopher Isherwood but never got around to it. Edmund White is a great novelist. I think he has AIDS but is still alive :-) Our Lady of the Flowers by Jean Genet, pretty much most of what William S Burroughs wrote.

hmm i'm wracking my brains here.

If you go back to late 1800's-1920's you have Artur Rimbaud (french gay poet), Oscar Wilde.

Somerset W Maughman, Marcel Proust, Tennessee Williams bit later time period both gay but not really gay writers.

^this was an awful and harsh read. Not one to leave lying around the house. But necessary reading I think to some extent.

I should've started a new thread

Salo - 120 Days of Sodom by the gay Italian director Pier Paulo Pasolini is not really a gay movie even though it contains plenty of homoeroticism, sodomy and the like.

This movie tops Irreverisble in the gut wrenching WTF sense. Much more symbolic and metaphorical though.
