And instead seems to have decided to live being sad and pathetic.

That's a good question!
I don't think it is tho, I don't drink at home, there is rarely any grog in my fridge.
I have a cpl bottles of wine in there now, but that is for dinner with a friend on Thursday night when he gets up from Syd.

I know you have to beat the competition in your professional life…but I advice moderation in your drug-taking. Don't try to compete by getting the new high-powered chemical drugs

Four drinks a week?

If you're looking to have a healthier alcohol-free lifestyle, then all power to you but it's hardly a problem, surely? Or do you want to stop because you fear it will become a problem? I would quit drinking if I didn't love it so much... Judging by most of the posts here, I'm the town drunk. Although I have found, as I've edged closer to 30 that my hangovers get so, so much worse.

Good luck, nonetheless!

Oh, oh really, was that us? was that me and you Tommy? I remember I blacked out a little after that forth shot of Jager last night."

No, it's not just 4 drinks a week. It's me going out once a week and getting 'written off' I don't do it cheaply either. For me, a night out comes at around $250. With the drinking comes the gambling and so on and so forth. It's just a culture I do really well without.
I don't mind going out to drink occasionally, and I don't think having 4 drinks a week is a bad thing. That's quite ok in my books. But I'm trying to limit the nights that I go out and get blind with the boys lol

Anyway, update, the other night we had another meeting in a hall with a lot of people who are running into dramas with their drinking. Some are finding family life becoming difficult, some are getting into trouble with authority etc.

I am actually thinking of doing some coaching with some other young people my age through this counsellor, about what keeps them drinking etc. Also what drives them out of the workforce and continues the spiral they seem to be stuck in. I think at least being a similar aged peer to lend an ear may help some of them.

Ah ok, sorry I miss-read your OP. That is a lot of money, but I'd be lying if I said I hadn't spent (or close to) that amount in the past, but much of the time it was because I'd be scoring recreactional drugs as well. I've found as I've got older, the want to go out drinking with friends is still there, but drinking for the sake of getting drunk isn't as high on the agenda anymore. Careful with the gambling though, I've only been a few times in the last couple of years and I can see how it could become addictive.

Yeah, I've found my tolerance for standing around having a beer is quite high, I can drink a fair bit lol.
But I'm also quite generous with my friends, don't mind shouting, as long as everyone is enjoying themselves.
I'm actually not a big fan of going out per se. I don't enjoy clubbing, but I really enjoy sitting around at the pub/surf club/golf club having a beer.

The gambling bit is all fun, I really only set myself an amount and am really good at sticking to it, I always go into it expecting to flush the money down the drain, so when I lose it, I can easily walk away as I wasn't expecting a return. But when I win, it's a bonus

We only have 1 life. Oh yea, so lets all just throw it away by becoming drug addicts and alcoholics. Good idea!

So it's been almost 2 months now, I've learnt a lot, from many a different counsellor and classes that I have attended.

I'm actually going to start volunteering my time with helping the groups that I attended now... I think it's a good way for me to give back to the community. Although I have contributed fiscally to certain causes for the last 5 years, it is something I have not been doing in a physical capacity before.

As I am a fairly big believer of the biggest and most important thing you can give is your time...

So hopefully I will start that in about 6 or so weeks.

Currently I'm on-track with my fitness challenge of a minimum weekly quota of 30km running and 30km skating!
It's been hard stick... but raising some good money

I think this explains why, when I was younger and out on the "scene" more, picking up someone at the end of an alcohol fuelled night, was not always such a good idea. You'd thought you had gone home with someone with the looks of "Brad Pitt" and when you woke up decided it more like "Lava Pit". (And sometimes by the look on their face - they felt the same!!!)
