so apparently according to the ACL it's okay to Boycott Sunrise and all their advertisers for supporting marriage equality but its 'despicable' to boycott a company that supports discrimination and supports them? do i smell hypocrisy?

Americas version of the ACL called NOM had a crack at Starbuck america who came out in support of gay marriage earlier this year... Again, their hate filled campaigns failed and Starbucks held strong to their support.

I'm straight and I boycotted

Mr Wallace, it's not about being a gay activist, it's about being wise enough not to associate with anything to do with the ACL

GJs statement that they are not affiliated with religious organisations is disingenuous. "Some of the best Gloria Jean%u2019s franchises are owned by Hillsong members, which helps Hillsong because they give 10% of their pre-tax dollars to the church. There are also Gloria Jean%u2019s coffee stalls at the many Hillsong conferences held each year, along with Gloria Jean%u2019s outlets at the Hillsong Church at Baulkham Hills. [Half-owner of GJ] Nabi Saleh uses his Assemblies of God connections (he is a director of the AOG Southern Cross College) to promote Gloria Jean%u2019s at other Pentecostal churches such as Paradise Community Church in Adelaide."
"ASIC reveals that Saleh has many business interests, including Gourmet Foods Australia, Petra Gourmet Coffee, Brothers Gourmet Coffees, Maranatha Import Export (which sells private-label coffee to supermarkets), and he is operationa director of Tea & Coffee Traders." He is also a director of two US evangelical organisations. http://www.christian-witness.org/pdf/penteMay05.pdf

Gosh, this is high-drama.

Who'd of thunk it? - Gay issues being fought over a cup of coffee.

Bugger! Gotta go to the shops... I've run out of popcorn.

Queenslanders, if you support Gloria Jeans then effectively your also supporting the LNP as the LNP receives thousands in donations from the ACL which Gloria Jeans supports.

Well if we don't give this attention then maybe Gloria Jeans might even give the ACL a bigger donation than what they have already done. That is why this deserves attention.

I'm a little disgusted that Starbucks is using this as a PR opportunity.

It's also possibly worth noting that Gloria Jeans is at least Australian owned and that Starbucks Australia is not.

Doesn't the end always justify the means?

Another straight one here. I have boycotted them for years due to their affiliation with Hill song and earlier on Mercy Ministries. Power to you all, hate bigots.

Good PR move by Starbucks. The ACL are home grown too and yet they are little more than a hate group.

Do you "smell hypocrisy", D_Francis19? I'm surprised we're not all choking on the fumes! I hate GJ's coffee anyway, but now I have an even better reason to avoid it. "Hellsong" receives support from it and now this; GJ deserves all the flack it gets over this one.

Starbucks has always been a supporter of equality in the US.

@Ammonite shame on you! how dare you attack a company for standing up for your rights! If you go to Starbuck's Facebook page you will notice they were asked their stance on gay marriage, what were they meant to do, say nothing? Just because Gloria Jeans is an Australian company it doesn't give them the right to have bigoted ill informed views, they even realise that now. Frankly, I find it disgusting GJ's is now backpedaling because of the backlash. GJ's should stand up for what they believe in which is gay Australians shouldnt have the same rights as straight Australians.

Well how about Gloria Jeans makes a $30,000 payment to gay and lesbian rights lobby? And by the way, im a active atheist.. and if you can preach to me, then I'll preach to you.. By making a choice over where I buy my coffee, I'm taking a small step.. If you are not gay, you have the choice to show compassion and empathy.

Gosh! Further fallout today.

"headspace has been a proud supporter of the RU OK? Day campaign for the last two years and actively involved in promoting its activities and messages through our own networks.

However, the recent revelations that a major sponsor of the campaign, Gloria Jeans, made a significant donation to the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) in 2010 has given us cause for concern..."

I love how it is 'despicable' for us to boycott Gloria Jeans, but it is ok for the ACL to hate us and deny us equal rights.

The yearning for validation from an organisation that refuses to respect marriage equality is about as sensible as wearing roller skates on an ice rink. Could cause harm and not realistic or safe.
