Default whats with bears?
So do bears generally only like other bears? Or do some bears like other stereotypes too?

I've turned into a fur face since getting into mining, like most of the guys.

Hated beards, now I think they are sexy.

Annoying though when I bump into other gay guys they think I'm a bear and start telling me about local bear groups I might be interested in.

So apparently its just a beard until they know you're gay then suddenly abrakadabra! it turns into a subculture FETISH symbol thing!

I have always steered clear of the Bear community as I felt a tad out of place because I wasn't a bear and I wasn't a cub, however nowadays that is what i'm referred to as....The thing i have noticed with them is they tend to stick together generally. I participated in the Mr Harbour City Bears competition as a segment judge a few months back, little did I know that I would be taken in by that crowd straight away and I have met a lot of people.

I guess like anything it depends on the guy and what he likes?

I don't have a type however the bear community makes me feel more welcome than the patrons at Stonewall or Nevermind ever have...just saying.

You did very well as the 'pick-up line test cub'!

Also I don't consider you a bear or cub etc... You're just you to me!

I haven't been to "bears" since it was at The Flinders, but a friend of mine who goes out regularly reckons "bears" has got just as "cliquey" as anywhere else, especially The Lord Robert Hotel on a Sunday afternoon. Hope not! Have a lot of very fond memories of "bears".

The older crowd are still pretty friendly. Yet like everything, it all changes over time and I've noticed that there are more 'straight acting' type guys and 'scruffy' pretty boys (or twinks with beards) who go to bears now and they do seem to be pretty particular on who they socialise or converse with.

The irony is that I get more conversations from the punters at Stonewall than I do from the crowd at the Oxford on a Friday night.

why ?? are you after a 'pass' ?? (or can't u grow a beard ??)

As for the original 'question' : are bears into bears = much depends on what you 'define' as a 'bear'.

Me personally - I've been always regarded as a 'bear' (can't really stand the term) as a 'bear' to me is a big guy, hairy, large gut, whom doesn't really look after himself (that's my stereotype of a bear). This was the impression I got with the Sydney Bears at the Beresford many years ago. Of course what you get at 'bears' at the Oxford on Friday nights is a completely different crowd.

However - if it's some big guy that looks after himself, weight / muscle in proportion, works out, clean, then I'm into that type of 'bear' (damned rare as hen's teeth though - they don't exist in Sydney !!!!!)

EDIT:; of course my avatar fails to represent a bear !!

you can't just state that all bears are only into bears. Maybe in most cases thats true, but they're only human. Of course there are going to be variations on the 'type' that a bear is attracted to.

The type of bears that i like are the muscular ones without bellies with a bit of hair but not too much. But thats only one of many types of gays that i like. Sorry, i cant deny that i have types...

The guys you are describing would be 'catergorised' as 'muscle bears' and 'scruffy guys'.

Also you should get out more if you only have particular 'types', the world is full of amazing and handsome men, you close yourself off to so much when you generalise and catergorise people by 'types'.

i have 'types' which i find more sexually attractive than others. But that doesn't mean i would just reject a person because of their body type. I would certainly be more than willing to get to know them personally. When i say i have my 'types' its kinda just like a fantasy thing where i picture the hottest guys possible and fantasize about them. But in reality, meeting a decent guy who fits my 'type' would be nearly impossible. So its not like i go out only looking for a specific type of guy. In fact, i dont search at all. Which ever guy i happen to come across is the guy who i'll talk to, whether he's a bear or not

Yes, a really good posting by Mama Catastrophe. Had never heard of the "Goldilocks" term before (LOL), though! Started going when it was at the "old" Beresford, years ago, the Stronghold and when it first moved into the Oxford (before the major renovations were done). Ahhh fond memories of the pool table up the back, near the "gents" and when they moved to the Flinders. Believe the crowd is a bit different now at the Oxford, dont know for sure haven't been for a long while, but I guess that could apply to any gay venue.
