The committee should be congratulated on this result, particularly taking into account the huge amount of negativity that they faced over the removal of the 'alphabet soup' from their name and the frequent derogatory references to 'Straight Mardi Gras'. The success of the season was the result of MG listening to its members and to the wider gay community. No community-based organisation (particularly a community as diverse as ours) can expect to keep everyone happy all of the time but as long as they keep listening they stand a good chance of getting the participation & "bums-on-the-bleaches" at future MG events that are necessary for the organisation to remain sustainable.

Not even Kylie could counter the GFC. Well, that is a problem! A return back to bare bones and community would revive the SGLMG. People clearly love it and they want to share in it rather than just 'attend it'

Bad weather would not have affected ticket sales because these are purchased weeks and months ahead. Possibly last minute sales may have been affected, but wasn't it sold out this year? It might have affected drinks sales if people didn't stay out as long, etc.

Just remember Kylie waived her performance fee for this, so it would have been a bigger loss than stated.

The issue of security cutting down the number by 1,000 would have played some part in this and some of the side events may not have been so busy after the controversy of the name change, the weather, the gfc and a whole number of factors including the cut in ticket price.

How does one keep running on a loss ? Nearly a million in the last 3 years.
I haven't heard them filing for bankruptcy after years of trading insolvent, like a lot of businesses and not paying people. So how exactly do you run at a loss and do it again the next year ?
