I love being gay. I love knowing, and loving the person that I am. I love that I was forced to reconcile quite a difficult situation at such a young age. I look at my brother. Straight. He has no idea who he is: because he never had to ask. He never had to question the person that he is and the person that he wants to be.

I love the fact that I was forced to question who I am, what makes me tick, and how I fit into a world that isnt necessarily designed for people like me. For me, it gives me a greater empathetic understanding for issues as such racism, discrimination, alienation, mental illness etc. Having gone through a struggle myself, I am more aware of the challenges that other people in life face and I love this.

Would I choose to be straight? Hell no. Fck that.

Probably not, despite the fact that life would be a little bit easier in some ways.

I had a brief fling with a guy who wasn't out and didn't want to be gay. He was having counselling to sort out his "issues" and he was surprised when I said I would still be gay if I had a choice. He still hasn't come out and it doesn't seem like he's going to anytime soon! I couldn't imagine anything more difficult to deal with so I can see how for some people a "cure pill" or therapy might seem like an easy "fix"
