Default Possible new flag for New South Wales
I am bored and an insomniac so I am going to talk about possible new flags for NSW. This was proposed years ago, but as usual in this country nothing happens. This is not a discussion about the National flag so don't even mention it. The following are a bunch of proposals over the years, I really like the third one:

The current state flag is the following and really does not represent NSW. I'm not really talking about the Union Jack, but the Lion and St.George cross.

Australian flags are so boring.

I'm half surprised the New Zealand flag hasn't been mistaken for our during the olympics. they are so similar that unless they are held out stretched you can't tell the difference.

The flower thingy is the flowering part of the Waratah, the emblem of NSW.

Those were all the proposed flags that I am aware of.

Lol Wysi....ya know...I've always been partial to red and black....was thinking more western european...

Seriously though, I don't care for the state flag. I find both the Union Jack and and St George Cross irrelevant to NSW.
“It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so fucking what?”

One UK reporter was amused to see a match between AUS and NZL (I think it was women's hockey) and can't tell much difference!

"Look they have almost the same flags, except the other one has one bright star or something!"

The third flag is fine for NSW me thinks.
I agree with the above poster that the Union Jack and a Lion are quite irreverent.
The Watartah is a state emblem and a beautiful flower . The Southern Cross is quite appropriate.
See how the pommies have stymied our national identity at every turn?
Change all Australian Flags to reflect our own country NOT Britain in the C18.
The NZ flag has 4 red stars . OZ flag has 6 white stars including the 7-pointed federation star. Yes they indistinguishable to the casual observer.
Our national flag is a shame.
Just change the fucking thing. Everyone will get used to it in 12months and forget about any controversy.

I love the state flower but I really wish the state's name could be made more sensible. And I also hope the all states could be abolished.

As nice as it is I have never seen one, well not that I can remember.

State flower should be the Grevillia, at least there is a lot around.

I'm not sure they grow in hot soil like yours. The Sydney Botanic Gardens are trying to breed hybrids to make them easier to grow.

Yes, there is a lot to be said for abolishing the states and setting up lots of smaller departments/ cantons.

I'm hoping Sydney's Monorail, the Blues Point Tower and the Toaster will be demolished before I die.

And hopefully the states will be abolished sometime after I'm dead.

OMG, was there an annual waratah parade? How intriguement ?

I have spied wild waratahs in national parks. I resisted the temptation to snip.

The last flag has a lion on it for some reason?

Oh yes, Mr Badamj2000, indeedy there was!

From about 1956 the Waratah Festival was held in Sydney and run by the Sydney Committee. Took place, I think, from late October to somewhere in November. There was a parade, art exhibitions, performances (why does that sound vaguely familiar to another festival in February? .... ) and beauty contest (well, maybe not that part ...... yet?).

I also remember there was some sort of reception by the Lord Mayor at the Town Hall (wouldn't M/s Moore like that?) filled with culled waratahs taken from the National Park (well, she probably wouldn't like that part)

Sort of like a "Sydney's Straight Mardi Gras"(no bike paths back then )

Not sure why they "pulled the plug" on it..... it just seemed to fade away.

im a fan of this one below

cos then it would be th same consistency as NT (and then other states could come into line also)

and its important that things ... all things ... are even

id just make th white circle that th waratahs in just a little bit smaller so its th same size as th pattern in th NT flag and fix up th stars so there th same in both flags - th bottom one in both flags has a different no. of points as does th top right one, but th other 3 are good

Well, hon, you might get your wish with the first, Wasn't there something recently about Clover Moore wanting to get rid of the monorail. Sadly that ugly eyesore, Blues Point Tower and the equally less attractive Toaster, I think are here to stay. And as for the abolision of the States hon, there's no way all those state politicians are going to kiss that meal ticket away - well, not without a big fight I would imagine.

Yeah, I agree M/s Nemesis

Freaky can't see State politicians giving up there control without a big fight.

And what would replace them? ...... More political control at a local level?

Hope not! ........ As they say in the classics "My Council couldn't organise a bonk in a brothel, let alone a D.A. to build one"

Broken Hill is closer to Adelaide than Sydney? NE NSW/SE Queensland? Albury /Wodonga? Consider the national rail ( lack of an integrated) rail network) ?The present State boundaries are meaningless C18/C19 dotted- lines have more to do with longitude and latitude than anything. States governments and two territories? Think of all that wasteful duplication of services, resources and administration? Anyhoo, now that the Federal Government controls income tax and money talks loudest. A national interest should trump any ghastly parochial self interest? Basically, the ALP is pro Federalism whilst the evil Libs are pro States Rights. Bla bla bla
