Hey Marly,

Try this link:
http://www.samesame.com.au/forum/pro...?do=editavatar

If it doesn't take you to the right spot, go to a forums thread page, click on the "my controls" button, then click on edit avatar...

If you've uploaded an animated avatar somewhere else on the net, then find the URL for it. It should look like this for example:

http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/avatar34.gif

Then under the Custom Avatar field, paste it in the field that says: "Option 1 - Enter the URL to the Image on Another Website"

Ive tried heaps of times but just get message 'remote file too large'. Ive tried making it smaller to the point of ridiculous and also shorten the amount of frames in the anim but its making no difference??

I see this thread has not had any responses for some time, but could someone who has successfully uploaded an animated gif as their avatar provide a clue to how to do this.?

I have tried the above instructions, even going as far to edit the animated gif to exactly 150 x 150 pixels so that the samesame forum app is not forced to crop the file, but try as I may the gif does not animate ( = bardot should be stirring her cup & as you can see she is quite frozen).

Any help would be appreciated!

[Addendum: Since this post was written I was finally able to create a Gif which would successfully animate via http://gifninja.com/ and (assuming I have changed my Avatar again) Bardot should now be stirring her cup].

Do animated gifs take up too many megabytes?

Well. Clearly that works as URL nserted content. However I can't see how where in the current forum controls there is an option (as described earlier in this thread) to link an URL for the profile pic. The page http://my.samesame.com.au/edit-public-profile only provides for direct upload from a location on my PC which evidently doesn't work. It really shouldn't be this difficult.....

clearly it does make a difference. However there is no option currently available on the 'Edit Avatar' controls to link the gif as a URL as the earlier advice implies. If you are reading SameSame Admins it really shouldn't be this difficult.....

Quite right, it shouldn't be difficult and does actually work for 95% of users. Should be all of them. I normally say just PM me to let me know your password and I can quickly go in and put it in myself. It always seems to work for me. But no worries if you don't want to do that. x

Matt, thanks for the reply. It seems that the SS requirements for animated gif avatars are fastidious. For example gifs exported out of Photoshop work perfectly well when displayed within the contents fo a SS page but don't animate when saved as a profile pic. Finally I got around the issue by creating the animated gif via the online animated gif creator at http://gifninja.com. What actual differences exists between gifs created in Photoshop and Gifs created in this application nonetheless remain a mystery.
