Default Job Hopping? Very Risky?
Well, to put it simply I am thinking of job hopping. It will be job hoping as I have only been employed where I am for 7 months. I was intending to stay a respectable 12-18 months but a good opportunity has come up.

I have applied for a much higher paying job($13k higher then what im on) and have been successful in getting an interview(but apparently there are 3 rounds ).

I currently work for a Uni and its nice, casual dress, good leave, 35hr work week and easy going people.....but the pay is low. Well its low for my tastes anyway

The new job ive applied for is a highly competitive Federal Govt job so its gonna be very hard to get it as there are 3 interviews all with big panels. So this whole thread may be pointless anyway.

It sounds harder, more hours, formal and quite strict. I will actually need a medium level security clearance for it! Thats not a problem as I am an upstanding member of the community I have even done jury service and am a JP.

*but* if I do get made an offer(anywhere) is it smart long term to just hop from one job to the next? I spent 2.5yrs in a crappy finance job and got nowhere so I can be committed. I will definately be burning my bridges with the Uni if I leave this early.

Anyone else a job hopper? Is it more advantageous in the end?

Job-hopping isn't about security - it's about you. Your vision, drive, talent, skill and need for advancement, challenge and hard-earned remuneration.

a little job hopping is fine - a career of it ends quickly as employers look for long term investment and stability.
The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously.

One of the things I scrutinise on CV's when I'm interviewing for new staff is job hopping and unexplained career breaks. It's often what people leave off their CV's that's very telling.
