What about twinks? This is discrimination! I can't help it if I'm blonde and have little body hair to speak of! :P

how old / how much body hair warrants the title 'cub'?

To me at least anyway, mature-aged bears go out of their way to look like homeless men - those guys that stand around at Central Station trying to sell copies of 'The Big Issue' magazine hoping to score a dollar or two from passers-by. They don't wear deoderant, they don't (or hardly ever) exercise, they have pot bellies and they reek of cigarette smoke, sport flannelette shirts and wear leather boots like they're a C-grade porno star.

I don't see the attraction - but to each their own, I guess.

Give me Antonio Sabato Jnr. any day....

they also sometimes wear fluoro vests Asher lol

I think certain nuances of scene etc. should be taken with a grain of salt and we should take people on the basis of their individuality and also in the grand scheme of things Bears exist as a model for gay men to keep them off the verge of extinction via Tannorexia, so you gotta love that.

My 'sub-culture' is the exact opposite - I love men wearing Italian business suits, gentleman-looking, professional - fresh white shirt; unbottoned, tie undone, shaven, looking sharp & looking fine...why don't we hear more of this 'fetish'?

Why do people call them fetishes when they are gay, it's just a physical type it's not like when we see it we automatically have to start spontaneous masturbation. Straight people only seem to have fetishes behind closed doors, why is it that there is an insistance for gay people to and that they are putting their fetishes out in the name of sexual liberation when all you are doing is expressing the type of guy you are aesthetically into.

Great way to generalise! Talk about offensive! I'm a bear and I do the exact opposite of every stereotype you've written.

Maybe instead of living in ignorance, you should actually go to a bear night and see how wrong you are.

Please note that I began my sentence with 'To me at least anyway' - which denotes my perception. The mental image of 'bears' conjuers up the things I described in my post - I never said that bears are 'ugly' or 'unattractive' and I did go out of my way to say ''....to each their own, I guess'.
I don't need to go to a bear night to know I won't enjoy it, so I'll decline the invitation. That's like saying to a straight guy 'Suck cock, you'll like it!' or saying to a vegetarian 'Here, have a steak sandwich, you'll love it!'

I'm sorry but you can't cover up such villification by saying it's your opinon.

Surely you can express an opinion without being so hateful. As an exercise, instead of bears - apply your exact same comments to women, people of a different skin colour or even homosexuals (looking from a straight perspective) and tell me it's not offensive.

Hateful? No. I don't like the taste of broccoli. You think I hate broccoli? LOL! Bears pride themselves on affiliating themselves with a certain look, energy, vibe, scene, sub-culture. Like all sub-cultures. My point being that bears reject the average grooming rituals that the average man enacts every day. Like shaving their faces & clipping/waxing chests for starters. One 'bear' I met said he hated deoderant and liked his own 'musky scent'. Bears to me look rough. I don't like rough I like refined. Excessive hair is not attractive to me - but I'm sorry for the offence I caused.

Can a mature-looking 25 year old call himself a 'daddy'? Is daddy an age; or is it a mindset; a role play? If any guy in bed wanted me to call him 'daddy' I'd laugh and think he was a wanker. The line 'Who's your daddy?' is a joke! Who goes around calling themselves 'daddy'? lol

what 'average guy' does this? the twinks i know do, but none of my straight mates do. i suggest you reevaluate what exactly 'average' is. you may start your self proclaimed open minded posts with "it is my perception", but saying "it is my perception that an average guy..." is an oxymoron.

i just don't think you're as open minded as you might think you are ash, and it shows in your posts. i think the way you pride yourself by making your posts so exact, so succinct, so grammatically correct... makes your true opinions shine through like sun through glass - i'm just saying i can see why people get their backs up, and then you shrink back with a doe-eyed "why?".

Every little word I type here by at least someone each day is analysed to the nth degree no matter what I write. If I spent my time on SameSame agonizing over everything I wrote I'd implode. Seriously, naughtylion, I really like you but please quit dogging me. If somebody wants to educate me here about 'daddy bear culture' I'd be more than happy just listening and shutting up; absorbing as much as I can.

They analyse you're posts because you want them to, Asher. The way you write, you want to be picked apart and for people to take an interest. I don't mean to dog you - I like you too, sometimes you're correct and actually have really interesting things to say, but ur hideously arrogant and it sets me off sometimes.

You chose to quote a post of mine I wrote in this thread I that posted in January, we are now in April. My views on this thread have somewhat changed since then. If somebody wants to tell me why the title of 'daddy' to a gay guy who identifies as a bear is meaningful to him or the bear community, I'll happily re-edit my post and not contribute in this thread again; visiting only to read & learn...I find labels interesting, especially animal-related labels that are used in a social or sexual context. Fair enough?
I don't want to be 'picked apart'. I want my points to be challenged if posters want to add or correct my views. And they are only views. If I was arrogant I wouldn't be 'open' to be corrected. My last run-in with Mama Catastrophe taught me that - I have taken her advice. She wrote in the 'higher power' thread - Ash, carefully re-read what you want to say before you post. I do that now. Thanks, Mama. x

being 'open to being corrected' does not consist of "my opinion is, whatever you're talking about sounds like shit, and plain silly... am i wrong?"

you pick and choose your words with such an heir of condescension its not funny. using words tongue in cheek like replacing "just plain fucking weird" with "interesting", and "god i don't know anyone that'd wanna sleep with a boy that looked like that" with "thats not really a recreational persona i wish to explore". Shit examples, but ur a smart boy I'm sure you catch my drift. its just rude, and obviously SO much more obvious that you realise.

i do apologise however about not looking at the date the post was written. i just saw a new post in that thread, the conversation throughout the thread appeared to flow, and i didn't know it had been said months prior.
