Default Gay & Lesbian Valentines Day Cards!
After browsing my local newsagency yesterday, i noticed a distinct lack of generic or gay and lesbian Valentines Day cards. In fact, there were no special occassion cards aimed at Gay & Lesbians.

Just goes to show what a heterosexually dominated (not to mention bigotted and narrow-minded) society we still are.

In terms of equality, I don't think i'll truelly feel we have made any significant ground until we are fairly represented in the market place.

Your thoughts?

And, what are you planning to do for Valentine's Day in terms of getting a card? Or in general?

The concept of romance is not gender-specific; expressions of love are a HUMAN thing; not based on sexuality. I don't as a gay man need to be pandered to for the sake of commercial exploitation. What do you expect? Cards of Portia Turbo giving a bunch of roses to a leather cub on a leash? Sheesh. How gay do you have to be in this town? LOL
If you go to the Darlinghurst bookstore on Oxford Street down past Taylor Square, you'll get your queer-themed (but event-neutral) cards there... Tom of Finland, etc...

Where abouts is the newsagent?

Only stock products you know will sell... I think they would exist (say two male teddy bears on the cover with pink love hearts) but you have to look in the right places?
Ask me! I love telling people what to do....

Oh hell no. I never said anything about cards that depict stereotypes. I meant that somebody should be brave enough to commercially release cards similiar to the ones we already see on the shelves. Eg, ones that depict two men or two woman. Not necessarily as cheesy as you have described Bella.

Tom of Finland > Tacky! I'd rather buy a 'boy meets girl' card to be quite frank.

But the cards you describe already exist. Calendars, diaries, bookmarks and YES...cards. Nice ones. Simple ones. Romantic ones. Gay ones. Sounds like your 'local newsagency' is in Penrith. Where do you live? Go to the Darlinghurst bookshop as I described and you'll see....

Oh, okay. I'm in Melbourne.

I've never seen the same sex generic ones. I hope they exist..

In a post-script to my above post, i don't want to go to the ghetto to get my Valentines Day card! That defeats the purpose.

But anyway, point made. I've already spotted one that is almost generic. The male/female depiction on the front is androgeneous.

Surely to God you could find a nice gay card in a place like Prahran or St.Kilda. I find it had to believe you wouldn't be able to find a gay card somewhere along Acland Street...
