shanghai is pretty gay in some parts... i went to one gay club there that had this awesome neon tunnel at the entrance - it was very cool. but so so so gay inside! so much diva music! at the time i recall saying "it was like whitney houston had exploded".

What's considered to be destructive or culturally subversive is different in every country / government. Though gays are everywhere, just how visible they are allowed to be by the government is a whole other thing. Great step forward.
