Tropical Fruits reveals NYEparty plans

A huge DJ list has been announced for this year’s Tropical Fruits – Lismore Showground’s annual New Years Festival.

Hundreds of gay and lesbian punters camp out at Lismore in sub-tropical northern New South Wales each New Year, and 2010/11 looks to be no exception, with the massive Gold NYE Party confirmed, along with a New Years Day Pool Party and Recovery Party on January 1.

Well-known disc-spinners on the Tropical Fruits line-up include Kitty Glitter, Murray Hood, Seymour Butz, Sveta, Sammy Gee and Pete Underwood.

The event will also include a cabaret, ‘freak show’, fireworks, an art exhibition and a crew of radical faeries.

“Take in the whole experience with our on-site camping facility, replete with themed areas to suit all your camp needs,” say the fruity team.

Female revellers will also have a sweet surprise at this year’s New Years Eve festivities as they’ll meet a half-naked girl on a pedestal inviting them to paint her with tasty toppings.

Brisbane-based performance artist and Creatrix of Awesome Tiara the Merch Girl brings the memetic Internet phrase “dip me in honey and throw me to the lesbians” to life with installation piece Dip Me, offering her body as a canvas for all sorts of spreads, syrups, and sprinkles – from Nutella to caramel to honey (of course).

Befitting Tropical Fruits’ Gold Rush theme, she will also bring out exclusive gold-related decorations – joining the painted Gold men and women around her. Some lucky painters will also get to lick the toppings off her – if they ask nicely.

Tropical Fruits’ activities kick off on Wednesday 29 December with the Queer Fruits Film Festival at Lismore’s Star Court Theatre.

Tickets to all events are available now. See Tropical Fruits’ official website for details.
