Exodus: Ex-gay therapies don'twork

In a series of public statements, the leading force in the ex-gay movement Exodus International has now declared that “reparative therapy” doesn’t work.

The leader of the ex-gay group Alan Chambers has announced Exodus will no longer be advocating for conversion therapies that offer false hope to gay practising Christians.

Open about his own same-sex attractions, Chambers is married to a woman (pictured above) and has two children.

“I believe that any sexual expression outside of heterosexual, monogamous marriage is sinful according to the Bible,” Chambers said.

“But we’ve been asking people with same-sex attractions to overcome something in a way that we don’t ask of anyone else.”

Even more controversial within this community, Chambers added that he believed those who persist in homosexual behaviour could still be saved by Christ and go to heaven, The New York Times reports.

But this view in particular has sparked outrage amongst ex-gay groups.

Robert Gagnon, associate professor of New Testament at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary says: “The problem is, you can’t assure people that are engaged in serial, unrepentant sin of an egregious sort that they’re going to be in heaven,” NPR reports.

In a ‘Statement of apology by Former Exodus Leaders’ published a few years ago, Michael Bussee writes: “There were some real “changes” – but not one of the hundreds of people we counselled became straight.

“Instead, many of our clients began to fall apart – sinking deeper into patterns of guilt, anxiety and self-loathing… The message always seems to be: ‘You’re not good enough. You’re not trying hard enough. You don’t have enough faith.’”

Gay Christians face a lifelong spiritual struggle to avoid sin by resisting homosexual urges, and Chambers believes virtually every ex-gay he has ever met “still harbours homosexual cravings.”

A total of eleven churches have dropped out of the Exodus International community after this announcement, with many calling for charges of heresy.

Will the Flying Spaghetti Monster just smite these people and turn them into a pillar of salt! Or Parmesan! Or some other inert (but palpably more intelligent) dinner condiment! Heresy should be reserved for drinking Merlot with fish or chicken. Recognising that gay people can't be turned ex-gay because we aren't sick to begin with is simply a statement of fact!

Seriously, how fucking stupid are people? Is it really possible to deny oneself all logic sustainably over an entire lifetime? Apparently so...

Honestly, I read that and thought: "what the FUCK?" You can't bloody well prove that anyone is going to go to heaven or not because no one has been there and no one actually knows or even CAN know what happens when you die!

To impose ridiculous controls over a segment of the population based on what a ridiculous set of outrageously violent books is absolute insanity. Notwithstanding this bullshit about homosexuality comes straight from that old bastion of sense, Leviticus, which also has restrictions on many inane areas of life including whether or not you should die because you need vision correction (yes you should, according to the book) this utter nonsense needs to be thrown into the firey pit of ancient history post haste!

The couple pictured here are sad sad examples of humanity. Both are living a complete lie and without doubt suffer for it. Imagine having to go to bed with a woman every night when all you dream about is men. Imagine living with a man who finds you sexually distasteful. And THAT is a fact. I feel really sorry for anyone who can't even be honest with themselves.

You cannot be an "ex-gay" any more than a heterosexual can suddenly become homosexual. But perhaps, with prayer, it's possible??!!!!

however we DO have reasonably clear evidence that dead people don't eat. and don't dance. and don't fuck. which is why it's important to get as much out of life as we honestly & possibly can before we do :).

Christ! this lot make me very fucking angry! I've escaped the AOG Vhurch and it's bigoted hatred and doctinally justified condemnation of gays. This guy has contributed to the ruination of so many lives, yet still maintains that being gay-acting on my normal impulses, is still sin. I hate these fucking people!

Ex-gay 'therapy' is a money-making industry. Period.
Ex-gay ministries are destructive, not helpful in any shape or form.
Ex-gay 'therapists' should be banned by law. They're abusive people.
