Argentina’s Buenos Aires Los Dogos soccer team has won the Gay World Cup title in Buenos Aires, beating defending champs Stonewall 1-nil. The British team Stonewall were expected to win at the largest Gay World Cup held so far, presented by the International Gay and Lesbian Football Association (IGLFA).
It was the first time the Gay World Cup has been held in Latin America, and its 10th event to date. Latin teams including Mexico, Chili Uruguay and Argentina participated for the first time and it attracted 28 teams from Europe, the Americas and Australia.
Dogos Captain Mauro Cambone was elated at the win saying in a statement: “I’d like to thank God, and all of my team for all the hard work, and the support of the Buenos Aires city government for everything. This was such a thrilling win, and it was great to show Buenos Aires that there’s more to us than our nightlife.” Yes, there’s the men in tight shorts too.
Next year’s Gay World Cup will take place in London.
