New Gay Drama On Its Way
You may know the name Russell T Davies – he’s the executive producer of Doctor Who and the creator of the UK version of Queer as Folk. It’s just been announced that he’s working on a new BBC drama series, which will be looking at the fertile ground of “forty-something gay men”.
“It’s going to be about forty-something gay men and how jealous they are of gay teenagers. I’ve been longing to write something for adults,” Davies told The Guardian.
According to Pinknews.co.uk the series doesn’t have a name yet.
Davies told The Guardian that he was inspired by a friend of his – a former Mr Gay UK who broke up with his boyfriend.
“He asked me: ‘Why are so many gay men so glad we split up?’ That remark’s stayed with me for six years. I think there’s a self-punishing streak in that gladness and I want to explore it.”
When Davies’ Queer As Folk burst onto our screens it was applauded for being such an honest, unapologetic breath of fresh air. One can only hope that this new work of his will be just as good.
