Gay Relationships Are Better
Guess what? According to recent research gay and lesbian couples are more likely to have to have happier, more satisfying relationships than straight couples.
Robert-Jay Green is a leading gay researcher in the field of gay and lesbian relationships. He’s the executive director of the Rockway Institute, which is affiliated with the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University. He says that our relationships are often healthier on two accounts – our gender roles are more fluid and when it comes to parenting and household tasks, we’re more equal.
“It all comes down to greater equality in the relationship. Research shows that lesbian and gay couples — by virtue of being composed of two partners of the same gender — have a head start in escaping the traditional gender role divisions that make for power imbalances and dissatisfaction in many heterosexual relationships,” said Green.
According to publication MedIndia, Green’s studies found that lesbian couples are emotionally closer than gay male couples, who are closer than straight married couples. Green also found that gay and lesbian couples didn’t buy into the traditional roles that tend to divide such partnerships, the mechanics of gay relationships seemed to evolve over time.
Makes sense when you think about it.
When it comes to gay couples with kids, the parenting and household obligations were more equally shared by lesbians, leaving them feeling much more satisfied than the rest.
“Our research found that the most successful couples demonstrate closeness and flexibility. We found high levels of both characteristics in 79 percent of lesbian couples, 56 percent of gay male couples, but in only 8 percent of heterosexual married couples.”
The findings are definitely food for thought for anyone out there seeking to undermine the authenticity of gay relationships.
