Gaydar Killed The Gaybar

Interesting news from the UK – Channel 4 will be airing a report tomorrow which investigates how the internet and gay hook up sites like Gaydar have transformed gay society. According to PinkNews.co.uk, such sites have fundamentally altered what it means to be gay not only in Britain, but all over the world.

The report is investigating whether sites like Gaydar are directly responsible for a reduction of the size of the gay scene, an increase in sexually transmitted infections and the devaluing of sexual relationships. The report features high profile former Gaydar users including Labour MP Chris Bryant and playwright Matthew Todd.

Bryant’s opinions should be interesting – pictures of him in his underwear were taken from Gaydar and were published in an English newspaper in 2003. Gotta love that.

What do you think? Have online hook up sites changed the gay community for better or worse? Vote now in the forums.
