Ellen DeGeneres Beats Oprah In TV Host Poll
Ellen DeGeneres – comedian, talk show host and lover of Australia’s Portia De Rossi – has just taken out first place in a popularity poll of television hosts. She even beat talk show queen Oprah Winfrey – who even thought that was possible?
The poll, run by AOL, asked 1.35 million readers which daytime TV host “made their day”. Ellen took out 46% of the votes, Oprah only got 19%. When it came to who readers wanted to have dinner with Oprah did even worse! 47% of voters chose Ellen, Oprah only got 14% of the love.
Ellen’s built a loyal following on her show by keeping it fresh, different and real – she dances with her audience on every show, she doesn’t take herself too seriously and she’s not afraid to be vulnerable and burst into tears when things aren’t going well.
When it comes to morning TV readers favoured Diane Sawyer, Larry King was voted least sexy and Elisabeth Hasselbeck from The View was voted worst interviewer.
AOL Television Editor in Chief Scott Robson said that the poll was respresentative of a broad cross-section of AOL readers.
”(Our audience) is not just soccer moms. We really do combine everyone from hipsters to people who could care less about what happens on either coast,” he said.
